Hi folks, looking for some advice. We have found a lovely apartment to buy in Villamartin. Whilst we will spend a lot of time in the bars and restaurants in Villamartin - we do like to go to the beach and also like walking (for me mobility scooter) along a promenade and would want to do this most days. I have read something about problems with traffic in the summer. Could anyone comment on traffic going to and from Villamartin and La Zenia beach and Cabo Roig beach and also Villamartin and Torrevieja? Is parking easy in Torrevieja? I do have a blue badge. Originally we were looking at apartments in La Carihuela area of Torremolinos close to the promenade but the apartment in Villamartin is just so lovely and much bigger for our large family (of adopted children). I am torn between the two. I just don’t want to spend lots of time in traffic jams . Many Thanks.

It does get busy and parking can be a challenge in August but I wouldn’t say you’ll encounter traffic jams between Villamartin and La Zenia. I’ve always been able to park when we go to the beach.
Torrevieja on the other hand...I’m not sure about the daytime but I tried once to drive down in the evening in August and gave up and went elsewhere. It was impossible to park. At other times of year there is plenty of parking at the port. Maybe I picked a bad day and someone who drives to Torrevieja regularly will tell you differently.

The N332 in summers pre Covid was a nightmare, we were stuck in a solid jam of traffic from La Zenia roundabout to Punta Prima roundabout, missed an appointment even though we had given ourselves an hour to get there, a journey which should take 15 mins tops took over 2 hours. We just turned round and drove home.
We have only been to Torrevieja a couple of times in summer, never again.

If your blue badge is of UK origin, it may no longer be valid (I read something on this somewhere).
Worth checking ...

That is correct Kelvin. The UK Blue Badges are no longer recognised in the EU - mine new style one was issued last July without the circle of stars around the UK in the blue box which used to appear on them. Just another loss courtsesy of brexit.

Not quite true, but close at the moment.
In many countries where it is currently 'no' there are ongoing negotiations and no doubt agreements will follow which will then allow more EU country badges to be valid in the UK. Bit simplistic to call this 'another loss courtesy of Brexit'.

Maybe in the future a deal will be done, but right now UK Blue Badges are not officially recognised in Spain - your link confirms that. My apologies for over generalising but as the question regarding use related to Spain then the answer was taking that into account - roughly half the EU countries currently do not recognise the UK Blue Badge. Why 'simplistic' to call it another loss due to brexit when for those of us with Blue Badges it is a loss caused by brexit? Until the end of the brexit transition UK Blue Badges were allowed to be used in Spain and all of the EU (plus) countries.

No, not really. It is 2-4 km (depending on where in Villamartin you are).
Downhill to the beach. Uphill all the way back (some of it quite steep).
You have to cross a busy motorway and the N332. There are footbridges of course, but it is no fun at all.
