I thought some members may be interested in this article from secret Flyer regarding Vaccine Passports.

Several governments along with health and technology groups are working together to create a digital vaccination passport which has already been tipped to become the most powerful passport of 2021.

In the US, the Vaccination Credential Initiative, a coalition of organisations including Microsoft, Oracle and Mayo Clinic, aims to create a framework to verify genuine vaccinated travellers while spotting unvaccinated fraudsters.

The coalition builds on work done by one of its members, The Commons Project, to develop an internationally accepted digital certificate which is already being used by all three major airline alliances.

“Individuals are going to need to have to produce vaccination records for a lot of aspects of getting back to life as normal,”  Paul Meyer, chief executive of The Commons Project, said.

“We live in a globally connected world. We used to anyway — and we hope to again.”

Elsewhere, EU leaders will soon debate whether to allow Covid-vaccine passport holders to freely move within the continent like during normal times, while non-vaccinated citizens remain restricted.

The proposal is being pushed by the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, however, there are serious doubts in other EU capitals about the wisdom of the move.

Concerns were aired during a recent meeting of EU health ministers that any system that discriminates between those fortunate enough to have received the vaccine and the rest should not be implemented.

In regards to citizens from outside the EU, an official confirmed for SchengenVisaInfo.com that proof of vaccination would be required for Schengen visa application and visa-free entry.

Travel experts at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), a forum for the travel and tourism industry, believe that it will take a significant amount of time to vaccinate the majority of the world’s population, in particular those in less advanced countries.

Some leaders such as Canada’s Justin Trudeau, have confirmed they are not considering vaccination passports as he explained “there are a broad range of reasons why someone might not get vaccinated and I’m worried about creating knock-on, undesirable effects in our community.”

Thanks Rower.

I was talking to a couple of friends about this suggestion today.  I knew Spain was considering the idea, while also saying that the vaccination isn't mandatory, but I didn't know about the Vaccination Credential Initiative in the US.  My initial thought was that they can't introduce the certificate in each country until their entire population has been offered the opportunity to have the vaccine; otherwise, they're denying overseas travel to groups of people who have to wait longer for their vaccine, because of a priority list over which they have no influence.

One of my friends has Diverticulitis and other allergies, and because of this, she's very worried about her susceptibility to a bad reaction or side effects, even though she has no objection to vaccines in general.  Personally, I think the idea sounds sensible, probably essential, but it also has the ability to be quite divisive.

Stay safe,

Kim

I could see this vaccination passport causing more problems than it would solve. Including fraudulent passports, already there is someone somewhere working out how they can make a fast buck out of this.

I wonder if you would be added to a database, if you had  been vaccinated, there appears to be many issues arising from vaccination and non vaccination ,only yesterday the owner of Pimlico plumbers said he would not employ anyone who had an objection to being vaccinated

Without doubt this information would be on a database somewhere.  Spain are already creating a database of those who refuse the coronavirus vaccination, so maybe its already started?

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

In my opinion this has sinister overtones yet another way of controlling the masses.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I have an aversion to my information such as finger prints being on any database anywhere, that's why I'm so reluctant to swap my green residency card for the new TIE.

More information regarding the UK and EU position emerged on the Holiday Pirates site today.

https://www.holidaypirates.com/travel-magazine/covid-vaccine-passports-update-eu-countries-to-discuss-introduction-as-big-tech-companies-aim-to-create-digital-passports_37851?sc_src=email_2557398&sc_lid=167755205&sc_uid=HICHpn6oqz&sc_llid=69147&sc_eh=2fe2e6689c5e74ff1&utm_campaign=UK_2021_2_Sun_newsletter_all_all_20210117&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Read+the+details

However, according to The TimesBritish vaccination certificates are unlikely to be automatically accepted by the EU so British travellers will likely have to wait a bit longer to go on holiday using a Covid passport scheme.

There are currently no plans to introduce a similar scheme in the UK, although the government has invested in two companies, biometrics firm iProov and cyber security group Mvine, for a pilot scheme.

This article from the Guardian is a couple of days old but suggests not all in the EU are in agreement that this is a good idea/workable proposal:
