About an hour ago , in broad daylight with people around my adult daughter and friend were attacked. Believe man came from Villamartin golf course behind them as they walked down the road on the way to the square. Grabbed my daughter round the neck from behind, she fended him off and hit him. He then chased her friend who screamed, he grabbed two necklaces from her neck , leaving some scratches and ran off . They think he went back into golf course. They are both shaken but fine, necklaces aren’t worth anything , not even gold. Just wanted to warn people , this man is about in this area. Not filing a police report as been told it’s a waste of time and nothing to be gained. So just be aware people, take care. I won’t be walking down there alone anymore.

If you don't file a police report then you're right, nothing will be done. Regardless of listening to Chinese whispers up the pub, I find the police very helpful here. Don't know about Villamartin but I have been involved with the police, local and Guardia Civil, in Torrevieja and Rojales (Quesada) and they couldn't have been more respectful and helpful.

If you don't report it they won't know about it and especially if you have a description of the scumbag.

If they can find someone to translate they will report it tomorrow. Police won’t speak to them otherwise. We had a bag stolen last year from Mercadona car park in La zenia area and police were not helpful.Basically told us we are tourists , we are targeted, and the area is swarming with thieves in the summer, they come in plane loads from Eastern Europe and there is nothing they can do.

Try using the "Alert Cops" app.....https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alertcops4.app&hl=es

Please don't bother to report these problems on the forum as we can't help. Report them to the police, which should increase patrols in problem areas.

Thank you, I was only reporting this on here as a warning to others in the area not because we needed any help.

I’m quite sure most readers would appreciate reporting it!

I’m struggling to understand why someone would think it’s ok not to report it

How would the poster feel if this ‘person’ attacked again and injured someone ( or worse!) and it might have been prevented - unbelievable

I fully agree. This forum acts very well as a "neighbourhood watch". It is also important that the authority´s are made aware, as this forum doesn´t reach everyone. V

A similar type of robbery/mugging happened in Benidorm on 25 May. Important that all such crimes are reported to the Police.

The following is taken from the newspaper Informacion:

"The National Police have arrested two people in Benidorm for a violent robbery using the " killer " technique of an elderly British man from whom they stole the wallet containing his documentation and several credit cards.

The agents, who were carrying out a preventive patrol on foot, dressed in civilian clothes, saw how two men hit and shook a foreigner . Next, they grabbed the man by the neck and, using the "mataleón" technique, tried to make him unconscious, with the intention of robbing him, according to the Police.

The officers, immediately and shouting "Stop, police", managed to get the two attackers to release the victim, who fell to the ground and hit his head against a wall, causing an injury.

During the first proceedings, the National Police recovered the objects that the two criminals had stolen from the victim. It was a wallet inside which he had his personal documentation along with bank cards."
