This may not help but is it possible to put it on again? Or, switch the power off completely at the wall, try that. However I once had the same problem in the UK and ended up freeing it with a knife handle. Luckily the catch didn't break. Hope you get it fixed.

Switching the power off and then on again certainly works for computers, not sure about washing machines.

Agreed. Just clutching at anything that may allow a new cycle to run. Most machines have a safety delay before the catch releases, so perhaps the cycle is unfinished. Tricky one.
Also, if you try to open a machine during that short safety delay it resets the delay back to original timing.
I have had this problem in the past and found that if I push the door handle in towards the machine it should open easily, hope this helps.

I broke the catch on ours last year when everything was still in it - went onto youtube and they had a clip about putting string around the door (right into the seal) and pull it up to release the clip - worked (I then had to get new door clip and with help again of youtube, replaced it)

If the catch is broken, which has happened to me twice this year on two different machines, then using the method above found on you tube works well. I used thin wire rather than string. Once open its easy to remove the broken catch and replace with a new one, which can be ordered online.

We had the same problem, assuming the machine has spun and emptied, I used an old credit card inserted centrally between door and machine where the lock should be and it worked for me. Now we simply pull handle and push on the door and it opens
Good luck with it

This post that was quoted has been deleted.
Generally if the door does not open it will either be water left in the drum after spinning (as above) which holds the pressure switch and in turn will not realease catch, respin and try again, or broken handle which is not engaging on door switch, switch machine off, unplug, take lid off and use hand to push catch over to open door. You must switch machine off and unplug before trying that !

If you do have water in the drum, most front load machines ( not sure about top loaders) have an outlet at the bottom. It may be hidden behind a panel. Get a pan to catch the water if you aren’t near a drain , open the outlet, clean away any debris & empty the water from the machine. Then try opening the door.
If you did happen to find stuff in the outlet valve, run a short empty cycle to ensure the problem is resolved.
