Hi all

I'm on the Valencias urb in Villamartin and my 80 litre hot water heater has tripped out my electrics today. Its not leaking so suspect the element has gone. I have removed it but cannot find anywhere to buy a replacement over this weekend and we now have no hot water.

Can anyone recommend someone that would be able to repair this for us at short notice please?

Many thanks

Tony.

Leroy Merlin at La Zenia usually have loads of water heaters in stock, open until 10pm today.

With bnsic DIY scills you can save a lot of money. replacing the sacrificial anode (8,.) and scrathing the limscale off the heating elkement.. This should be done every 3-4 tears and I do not understand whay no service manual syas anything about it. A technician will quote you a little bit less than the cost of a new heater.

With the replacement price of these heaters and knowing that they will only last a few years, I really don't think it's worthwhile doing any maintenance on them.

Due to the lime content of the water round here, any used one will probably be pretty well caked up anyway.  They are easy to change and with basic DIY skills you could easily do it.

Remember to keep the temperature set at 50C or a bit lower.  Any higher will cause the lime to precipitate out of the water aggravating the situation.  Look in your kettle if you don't believe me.

I tend to agree with you. I went to leroy Merlin this morning and bought a new boiler. They fit for €95 and can do it Monday or Tuesday morning so I can't really complain. Much better service than back in the UK at B&Q!!!

That's good news.  A nice quick solution.  Cheers.

The new type water heaters are much more controllable that the old ones which were either on or off. Most new types have controls which you can set for tempreture. Also a timer can be useful.

Good idea to fit a timer with the current cost of electricity.  Ensure it's off all night and you don't need it on all day either.  They are well lagged and stay hot quite a long time.  Most timers allow you to set several on/off periods during the day.

If you are on a cheaper night rate tariff then you can bring it on during the cheaper time.

Thanks for the tip. Will pick up a plug in timer.

Due to the hard water in the Costa Blanca the only way to get your water heaters to last longer is to have a scale fighter fitted on the cold water supply to the heater. Other wise most heaters will only last 4 to 5 years if used co constantly.
