We from SA and as in Spain the houses in SA are built to keep cool. We used a gas heater, learn to dress appropriately in the evening - track suits and fleecy, throws and blankets on the couch and you cosy and warm. The winters are short not like the UK, so small price to pay for such beautiful long summers 😁
Cheers

Would it be worth considering having solar paneling and having low costs for any heating? I don't see many in Spain or is there a reason like maybe very expensive.

Yes Spain can be wonderful in winter with blue skies etc but as soon as that sun starts to drop so does the temperature. It is evenings when heating is needed when sat reading, watching tv etc.
Warm food, warm friend, & or included electric blanket ( when required!).
Spain helps (most of the year)

Best way is to properly isolate your property. Those claiming it is too cold in winter must be joking. Warmest winters of Continental Europe, but indeed, the nights here can be chilly, which is normal for a semi-arid climate.
Insolate your walls, put double glass and warm by using a heating pump orf a reverse heat airco.
Obviously, new properies in Spain have actually very good Isolation values. look at the villa’s in Las Colinas Golf. They are nearly class A energy , 12cm. Of insulation material , with an epc of less than 200. Of course, if you buy an old and/or cheap property, expect to have to invest dearly to keep you warm during winter nights.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.
This is factually incorrect.
The sun during winter IS strong and solar energy is very effective in the Costa Blanca South in winter.

We bought a calor gas heater. Very cheap to run and keeps the apartment nice and warm. Better than the built in air con/heating. Warms up quicker and is cheaper. We did it properly and obtained the correct certificate from the gas people.
So did we back in 2005. I still continue to use an estufa (gas heater) and have only recently purchased the third gas bottle this year. Before the one that I purchased in January the previous one was in February 2019.
Regarding the natural gas issue, who or where can I find the areas or towns that are supplied with natural gas, anyone out there know.
