Hi as this is our first winter in our property we are using an open fireplace to heat the house. Any suggestions as to what is the best source of fuel to use and where to buy.

Ouch! With an open fire you're likely to get a lot of fumes and smoke coming into the room until you get a good blaze going and a good suck of air up the chimney or flue. And if you let it die down a bit then you'll have the same problem.

I am no expert on open fires, but there maybe clean air restrictions on the emissions plus the chimney will need sweeping periodically, and the added problem of disposing of the ash.
