Just started ;ooking for health insurance to apply for our Spanish NLV visas. Anyone have any suggestions for a reasonable quote? Some of the quotes I have had for me aged 61 and my Mrs who is 60 have been 100's of Euros per month!

Contact Alfonso at http://www.granalacantinsurances.com/

Highly recommended.

Your medical history is going to be reflected in the price but after one year you can join the Convenio Especial which is €60 a month each to get into the Spanish health system. At age 65 this increases to €157  until you reach state pension age to qualify for the SIP card so this is another expense to keep in mind.
Medication will have to be paid for but is often quite cheap.

We're with ASSSA, but not on an NLV. 1 EU citizen, accompanying spouse. Similar ages. No existing conditions, policy for the year about €2,200 for the two of us. Paid in one go; monthly would have been more expensive. They have English speaking reps, office staff and doctors.

But equally can be extremely expensive!

With type 2 diabetes and other relatively common ailments were she not getting them free my wife's monthly meds would be averaging around €400.

There is somewhere online you can check the prices of medicines but I can't remember where it is.

We're also with ASSSA, 61 and 64 years old with no pre-existing conditions.  Our anuual policies for mid range cover are €890 each.

Kind regards,

Kim

We're also with ASSSA, similar price, but with existing conditions therefore a list of exclusions from the cover.

Also, we have to apply to ASSSA individually for authorisation for any activity (i.e. most tests) other than basic doctor visits. Was not aware of this when purchasing the policy, so ask before parting with your pennies.

And, no cover available further west than Malaga province.
