Hi

I am currently living in Spain (villamartin) and will be applying for residency shortly

How many hours a week do you have to work to qualify for Spanish healthcare

Thanks

Firstly entitlement to health care is not about hours worked, you need to have a job wlth an official contract of employment and from that your employer will be able to tell you what your entitlements are. Do you have that?

Secondly I'd check if travelling for the purpose of a residency application would be deemed "justifiably necessary", I suspect not. Also applications by UK citizens are being handled centrally in Alicante but is that particular office even remaining open during the crisis?

If you don't have a qualifying job already then I'm afraid that what were already gossamer thin prospects of finding one have disappeared completely leaving you with FULL private insurance as your only option and in the current crisis I suspect finding that will have become significantly more difficult.

Sorry to paint such a bleak picture but we're in a whole different reality today and will likely be for many weeks if not months to come so what passed as norms yesterday have gone completely out of the window and there will be casualties because of that - and I'm not talking about Coronavirus victims.

A friend's daughter recently obtained residency and a permanent SIP card on the strength of a long-term employment contract and a vida laboral with three months payments into social security.

Are social security contributions deducted from your pay? If so, you may need to ask social security whether those deductions qualify you for health cover.
