Hi

We are looking to move to Spain initially for 6 months ... Please can anyone tell me what they did to ensure they would be covered if there are any medical issues in this time?

We have EHIC cards... But is this enough?

Many thanks for any advice.

Lucy

An EHIC is only valid for emergency treatment as a visitor.

As things stand at the moment you need to apply for residency for stays here over 90 days.

For that you need proof of finances and of health cover. If you receive the UK state retirement pension you can transfer your health cover here by use of form S1 from DWP. Otherwise you need private health insurance pre-paid for twelve months and covering all eventualities including existing conditions.

The EHIC is not just for emergencies.

It's not a substitute for travel insurance though.
