Hi Tim

Our doctors are based at Cabo Roig. We are both in our 50s. We went into reception and registered. We had to show our EHIC card and From memory our Padron letter. Think we also took passports.  They then gave us temporary SIP cards with promise our proper SIP cards would be available to collect in 3 weeks. My husband is a diabetic and goes regularly but they haven't received the SIP cards yet but you can continue to use the temporary ones until it shows up!

If you live in Villamartin, Cabo Roig surgery is probably the one you need to go to, although if you are in an area that comes under San Miguel (El Galan, Eagles Nest?) then your Surgery will be in San Miguel.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Hi there. We were in the same position. We are resident in Spain since May 2014. The law changed in April 2014 in Spain in that you are no longer able to get a "full" sip card on being resident and on the Padron. We have since joined the "Convenio Especiale " under the Valencian Health Authority. Yes it costs €60 per month each, existing health conditions accepted. My partner is insulin related being diabetic. You will have to pay 100% for your insulin, which is expensive in Spain. Not sure how another reply has been able to be told that you will get "full" cards. This is incorrect. We have been to hell and back again to get the proper info, even through our solicitor. Your local Centro Salud will be able to help. The health authority in Alicante can send you or complete all the paperwork. Maria is the name of the only one who speaks English. We have lost the direct phone number but under looking for the Convenio Especiale in Alicante, you may be able to make direct contact. Hopefully this helps. We have learned the very hard way.

Sip cards

Well we went to the medical centre at caba roig and the receptionist could not have been more helpful,we asked how we sign on with a doctor she said all we needed was our padron and our nie number along with our ehic card, we duly got these and took them back and signed on there and then and gave us our sip card which runs until March 2017 when we have to renew it !! It could not have been more easy, however for residency the sip card is not enough so you do need private health care for that part
