Kev have you thought about changing your warfarin to one of the newer anticoagulants which dont require INR tests?

Hi again , unfortunately hit reply button before I finished. I changed a year ago after 6years of monthly blood tests, when I started staying in Spain for 3 months at a time. Speak to your Doctor as it has taken the worry of where to get the tests done and my dosage is easier to manage. I also dont have to work round tests in UK either. Your doctor will tell you if your condition is applicable as some are not.

Regards

Pauline.

Ps. There was a lot of worrying info on the net which caused me to refrain from changing a few years back, but apparrantly the newer ones are very stable now and issues are no worse than issues with overdosing on warfarin.

Hi Pete

You are so correct, no one pill suits all. I suggested  Kev speak to his Doctor as not all conditions suit the newer anticoagulants, and not all people react same way with medications. I changed nearly a year ago with no known side effects to date, but had I not changed although my condition was suitable for the changeover I would have been scared to change in case of??. The internet is full of bad experiences but rarely good ones. Likewise there is no proof your wife may have still suffered her 2nd stroke while still on warfarin. It could be her medication was changed back to warfarin as rivaroxaban did not prevent a stroke on that occassion but is not necessarily the cause of why it happenned. It,s a russian roullete situation, taking anticoagulants are preventative medications but dont cure the cause of the need for them.

Regards

Pauline

That seems conclusive then Pete, maybe they only know which conditions are not suitable after the event. I,m so glad to hear though your wife is recovering and yes you are right to be sceptical. I shall stay on rivaroxaban until I,m proved its not suitable for my condition.

Regard

Pauline.
