Hi new to forum.

When visiting big supermarket there is always 2 girls trying to sell funeral plans. Quite expensive about €8,000. What happens to your plan and money if the plan provider goes bankrupt? Is it worth the risk?

If that was for a couple then it's about the going rate or maybe a shade over.

In the case of provider insolvency what  happens to a plan and the money paid into it could likely be different for each (although probably never good for the client! ) so is down to asking the right questions before signing up.

That price was for 1 person, but I am not sure they really knew, they kept on about brass handles etc.

I did ask about insolvency and they just seem to waffle on about ‘’TRUSTS’’. I am not sure if that meant you have to trust them or it meant something like the Maxwell Pension Trust or the bhs Pension Trust.

I suppose they can tell you anything until it goes wrong, and then they all disappear. What actually is ink on paper worth when your money has gone?

I might look at a bank savings plan or a death whole of life insurance policy.

I have heard that Spain has some sort of Public Health Funeral which is free.

Hi,

Contact Caren at Iberian Insurance Services in the Rioja Centre, just up from Villamartin.

She deals with leading provider Golden Leaves and maybe advice you.

I do know that the cheapest is 3650€, but I opted for the middle one at 4050€.

Hi Rupert, I´m interested in this as well. We had a salesman visit who had a minimum charge of @ €4,000 each.  I´m not religious, I don´t want fancy cars driving my body about and a cardboard box would do me fine. I want to be cremated, with no service, and my ashes can be stored in a pickle jar for all I´m concerned. If any of my loved ones are still around, I would like my ashes to be scattered, otherwise disposed of, and they are aware of this.
How can I arrange this, does anyone know? However little fuss I want, I know it is going to cost something. Thanks in advance for any info at all.

There are a number of companies offering Funeral Plans that advertise in the local free newspapers, best advice would be to contact a number of them for a quotation and what is provided, also before committing yourself try checking them out Online for independent reviews from customers who have experience of the company.

Cheryl, if you donate your body to science, that costs €1000 payable when the body is collected.

That's what my wife and I have done. My point of view is that a dead body is just a decomposing skin bag of organic matter. By donating my body to science, I hope to continue helping people (medical trainees etc) even after I die.

Thanks Jim, unsurprisingly, the salesman said there was no call for donation, but then he would, wouldn´t he! How do I go about arranging this, as in letting the authorities know my wishes? Of course, I will discuss everything fully with my family but should I add this to my will?
