Just wanted to flag up that we are having a problem with the above insurer. We arrived late on 17 September at our house to find that we’d had a water leak while we been in the UK. The house was like a sauna when we walked in 10:30pm, Black mould on the living room walls, sofas covered in a sort of green leopard print. All pretty horrible. So far we are getting nowhere fast, they sent a chap round fron a local repair company who took a couple of photos but spoke only Spanish so couldn’t tell us anything.spent 20 mins on my mobile to Zurich waiting for them to find an English speaking person. I know it’s my bad not speaking fluent Spanish but this insurance was sold to ‘Lloyd’s foreign customers’ so I sort of expected a multi lingual availability. We’ve had to involve the bank as we are getting nowhere with Zurich. Long story short we’re no further on than a month ago, would not recommend this bunch to anyone. Hard lesson to learn but in a difficult situation you need assistance not total indifference, so we will be changing our insurer come renewal.

Remember to cancel your insurance at LEAST a month, preferably two before renewal date, or you will have to suffer them another year.

Yes I shall definitely make sure that doesn't happen. Thanks Kenneth.

I sympathise, I too had a nightmare experience with LaCaixa bank insurance who refused to pay out after a total house ransacking whilst in UK. We were refused any compensation(5 bed house approx 20,000+ € worth) because there were workmen in our area longtime preparing ground for new AVI train and we had land confiscated which as we hadnt known aboutt they said made us "vulnerable" to robbery.

Anyway after losing faith with Spain(estate agent and solicitor both witheld this info) we went to UK Staysure(holiday home insurance). I may pay a little more(just renewed this month for £396 but last year they paid out(5 days after receiving my invoice) 1500€ for a fence renewal and even more impressive, 2015 a hailstorm in July!! caused 5000€+ damage(completely new solarium roof, new gutters and contents inside water damaged which we only discovered in October on return(hence lot of leaking). They sent assessor from UK 2 days after my call, he authorised immediately the payout via telephoning his office and I couldnt recommend them highly enough. People will recommend their insurers but have never made a claim, and thats the real experience thats important. My renewal price is higher understandable, because of these claims but not bothered as their service is perfect for non residents.

Hope this helps you to decide

Pauline.

Thank you for sharing your experience Pauline, that’s really useful. I will definitely get a quote from Staysure.
