My view is that the majority of people that go back to the UK is because they miss the grand children although they don't like admitting it for one reason or another. That seems never to be mentioned when people are asking for advice on living in spain.

I never thought I would move from Scotland as I was very patriotic... But this is a valid point for that feeling of homesickness can be awful... I am happy to report I have never felt like this as there is nothing for us to go back to we have been here 1 year now... sadly GB is in a terrible state in every level we are the laughing stock of the world .... Anyway my life is now in this beautiful country Spain with the sunshine and where we have been accepted by the Spanish whom are lovely caring people and they are all about there children and their future which is now sadly lacking in Scotland

i wish people would read what the op is saying,
he is selling up , coming to live as a resident ,therefore ehic card no use, they need med ins @ a cost of 70e min each per month
then after 1 yr can go on spanish system , if under 65.,
secondly , why woud he want to rent for 3 yr @ £18,000 on avg , then in same breath the poster says you lose 19% in buying and selling ,
if the op decided to go back to uk, hes now losing 19% plus 18,000 , i think after 6mnth you would know if area was for you,
thirdly, as for scots accents, the good people of the inverness area talk the best queens english, fact , more slower deliberate,
fourthly , airport journey irrelevent unless going back and fourth, so why not look further inland for cheaper prices ! for sake of another
10 to 15 min journey , its all options for the op to consider, what his prioritys are ,
looking at villamartin propertys , there is less choice and less for your money as your closer to coast,
depends on your criteria ,
personally i would join other forums and fb pages of other areas , and get as much info as possible
about the pros and cons of moving to spain,

Regarding medical insurance:
It is increasingly likely that there will be a "No deal" which means no state medical cover whatever your age. There's a well known English woman who said "Brexit means Brexit". Also no deal means no deal. Many patriotic English will be delighted to hear there's to be no deal. Control of borders, keeping those gastly imigrants out and regaining the kind of pride that Churchill referred to in the 1940s (God save the queen!) is what they are looking for. Isn't it great to feel in control of your country in spite of sharply increased costs and bureaucracy, not to mention loss of jobs?
Back to medical cover - I've researched it - Spanish private insurance generally will only cover you fully if you have NEVER had a previous medical issue. Moritoria don't seem to exist. If you had cancer 15 years ago as I did, NO cover. If you are over 75 a wopping increases in premium. If you've had flu' NO cover for flu?!
If all this comes true, pass on Spain and try Costa Rica - chose between a tropical coast and temperate midlands. No military and low cost private medical care. Rent don't buy. Only problem - most of your neighbours will be from Cowboy Country - but then you like their films ---- now meet the people!

if youve researched it then you,ll find on cab spain that free health care for immigrants is around the corner ,and is happening on individual basis, you are not covered on existing condiions, you sound ancient , your presuming too much , as the op is scottish, he may well be in the eu, if scots decide too, he may also have an irish granny , he maybe a picture of health,
there are 1000s of brits with private health care , are you saying theyre not covered,
if the worse case scenario and no state health care over 65, do you think the uk would risk having more burden on the nhs
when they pack up and come home .
you also sound like a angry negative man

brexit is irrelevent in ops case , as he has not made the move , and should envisage the costs involved , incase his fellows scots dont
bail him out with independance ,so less of tryng to be smart !!

Hi hope to be in Villamartin or surrounding area in sept. my house is up for sale at the moment. I was wanting to get feedback from anyone who is living there from the UK and find out all the pros and cons. Big step but hopefully a nicer life awaits my husband and I.
You are very brave to do that in the middle of this Brexit shambles !

Do plenty of research in the house buying, some areas are on a flood plain, also bear in mind that Spanish houses are like igloos in the winter, temperature in January 2017 ,was below zero had snow were in our holiday home in LA Siesta at the time ,was glad to get home .
