Looking for a little guidance folks, I had the pleasure of looking at properties in the Torrevieja area some 20 years ago and Villamartin, Playa Flamenca etc were some of the places that were looked at at the time. Obviously these urbanisations have expanded since then but now both my wife & I are retired, and considering a permanent move out to live. We are wondering if any particular area is safer than any other? We really like the Villamartin urbanisation and would welcome any advice available. Thank you

Hi,

I’m no expert on this subject, I’m aware of some skullduggery around.

We brought our villa just outside San Miguel de salinas on an urb called lake view mansions, a lot of the residence are on a messaging chat site and all warn each other of strangers etc, my next door rang me to say with the recent down pour my pool was about to over flow.

This goes a long way for our peace of mind whilst out of town.

I’m sure other rubs operate a similar thing, but I do know there are a few properties for sale on this urb, just have a look...lake view mansions...

Thanks Terry, we’ve looked at quite a few properties on the net but can’t yet get out to spend time in the area to view! It’s good to know that neighbours keep an eye out for each other. We heard a little whisper that the area has or does suffer from theft & burglary on a regular basis so obviously this is something we want to avoid. Loved the Commercial  Center when I was out previously and a property within reasonable striking distance would be great. Any recommendations for a good reliable property agent?

We did view lots of properties and used a few estate agents, inmo investments were very nice and we wished they were selling the property we eventually brought.

Casas vista in villa Martin plaza were the agent who sold our property, they are English and were good, I think thou it has to all be about the property....

Happy hunting

I’d say your 30 mins from the sea from here, there’s a pub/hotel black bull inn on the urb, British owners very nice people.

Lovely orange/lemon grOveS, plenty of golf , 3km to San Miguel de salinas and supermarkets.  We love it....

Hi

We came over in the late 80's to view property took us just over 2 years to finally purchase one, initially we looked at Villamartin, Campoamor, Cabo Riog, Playa Flamenca & Punta Prima, on our next visit we moved the search North Guadamar, La Marina, Santa Pola, then visited Dolores, Almoradi, Benijofar, Quesada, Dona Pepa & El Raso, we eventually came out with the intention of buying in Villamartin as we were always drawn back to it with the Plaza and that area in general but the agent showed us a new build off plan at El Raso we couldn't say no to so we bought that.

We had it 10 years and sold it for a huge loss and we vowed never to return to Spain, but here we are just had an offer accepted on an apartment in Villamartin PAU 8 where we intially came to 20+ years ago to view funny old world.

You have been out to the area already with you suggesting Villamartin, I take it you are drawn to that area as we were may it be 20 years ago but its pretty much the same, areas have expanded a lot but its the same feel, only downside with Villamartin is the cost of the properties are generally higher than the surrounding area but as they say location, location, location. We have chosen to buy here for a number of reasons, the Plaza has loads to offer every ones pallet numerous bars and there are bars and restaurants en-route to the square which is walk able from where we are, there are shop's around the Plaza if you don't want to hire a car although the cost to get to and from the airport you may aswell hire one, if you do have a car then the beach is 10 minutes, Zenia Boulevard is 5 minutes with loads of shopping, restaurants and cafe's, I play golf the wife likes to read and relax so we purchased an upstairs apartment which gives us the added terrace for privacy, I could rattle on all night but its suits what we are looking for, I would suggest come out in the summer and the winter as there is a big difference to what is and isn't open.

I have private message you the name and number of a guy we have used he was brilliant not pushy at all listens to what you want, the apartment we bought wasn't under there office but he negotiated a deal for us and did a virtual tour has had builders around to do quotes I can't recommend him enough.

Good Luck at the moment its a buyers market so could be a good time to get down and do a deal.

Hi ,

Ive also just purchased in Pau 8 , I just used Transferwise account (No Charges and great rates, very similar to Starling) , I got my Local Spanish lawyer to create the draft for me , he didn't charge for this.

Hope all goes well for you.

Cheers

Craig

Hi Craig I'm interested in what you said about getting your solicitor to set up the bankers draft for you. I'm trying to avoid bankers draft fees for an imminent purchase so would appreciate some information if you know of a way to do it.

Thinking of opening the basic acct for DDs with Caja Rural. Does anyone  know what they charge for bankers draft? Thank you

Good morning to all,

Hope everyone is safe and well and not going stir crazy with whats going on in the world at the moment....!!

We are Andrew & Eleanor from a mainly overcast and rainy North East England although very friendly place to live and always happy to help anyone :)

I own a chauffeur company in Newcastle and Eleanor has just retired from her job to work with me part time in the office looking after the accounts, presently we have no plans to move out permanently to Spain as I have another 5 years possibly to work before I will consider retirement.

We have been searching for 2 years for the right property and now we feel we have found it a lovely 2 bed apartment in Pau 8 Villamartin, we have always liked this area in general everything is close by and the Plaza is lovely with a wealth of pubs and restaurants and the coast is a 5 minute drive.

The only thing I am struggling with at the moment is which bank to open an account with, we will be non residents I am reading and hearing different things about each mainly to do with charges, I keep coming back to Sabadell as we will only have the utilities coming out the account we are paying cash for the apartment so everyone's advice would be welcome

Look forward to possibly meetings some of you and enjoying a few San Miguels in the sun.

Regards Andrew & Eleanor

Sabadell, without a doubt.
