Hi - We came out last October with Sunworld for a week. We booked flights, they paid for us to stay in a beautiful apartment. Were taken around different areas and looked at many different properties. We didn't want one too close to the sea as we wanted somewhere that didn't feel like we were coming on holiday as the idea is for us to probably move here permanently as we are both retired. We bought a lovely two bed quad bungalow in El Galan on a small community of 28 bungalows. We used Sunworld for everything including their legal and financial team. We gave them power of attorney as otherwise you would need to come back a couple of time just to sign documents. They got our NIE numbers, opened a bank account and set up direct debits for water, electric, community fees, Sumo (council tax) and non- residents tax. So easy! The extra it cost is was 8,000€ and we paid 94,000€ for our property. El Galan suits us as it is a quiet residential area with walking distance to bars, supermarket, shops etc. The coast is about an 8 minute drive away. But our next purchase will be a car. The bus service isn't good and taxis can be expensive. It all really depends what you want. Come and have a look, get to know different areas. There are plenty of properties to choose from. Hope this helps.

Hi we have just moved here and we used HomeEspania, they are based in La Zenia and drive you round all the different areas and show you properties that you have chosen to view from their website. We ended up buying in Playa Flamenca and a property that they picked out for us. We spent our 3 days with Wim and he was great. They help with banks, solicitors, currency exchange, everything..... It was so easy from start to finish. They also have an aftercare team that look after you for as long as you need.

So much good advice already.
We bought in 2016
Turned up in Villamartin with a list of 8 fabulous properties we had shortlisted from websites. What they don't show is the actual street, area, urbanisation, neighbourhood and neighbours - and we rejected the lot.
Have some fun and walk round - using the mantra - "could I live here"
Just beware the empty, deserted holiday home areas, and you can tell from the way properties are maintained
Enjoy.

Super helpful member
The website for Citizens Advise Bureau Spain has a lot of helpful information. However, many things may change after the 31st October and you should also be aware that many provinces and town 'tweek' the national rules and regulations for their own procedures.
