Hi, I’m approaching retirement and have always dreamt of having a home in Spain.

Because of Brexit I’m hoping to keep a small flat in the UK and buy somewhere in Spain, I have been researching Villamartin and it seems to be ideal as I want more of a residential feel rather than holiday home. I like the look of the contemporary properties . Can anyone give me some thoughts of what areas are the best?

We are coming to Alicante in May and will hire a car to explore,

Thanks for reading and tips would be ap

Hello,

Your intended visit to this area is 8months away &  due to the Brexit withdrawal agreement on 31/12/20 & the Covid 19 virus, so many changes can happen  during that time. You would better doing your research from the UK until much closer to your visit as info. given to you now could be out of date. Different nationalities  will buy & sell & rent etc  & rules regarding visiting, & hoping to live here could  change dramatically as the UK becomes a 3rd nation country from January

Don't give up on  your dream, but next year & nearer the time , we will all have a better idea of the changes in place in all areas & be able to help you   more .

Cheers

Thank you for your swift reply. Yes we intend to wait until after Brexit . We will not need Residency currently and are aware that we may be restricted for stays that’s why I have decided to have a property in Uk so we can spend majority of time in UK, We are lucky in the fact that if we did decide to want residency in the future looking at current rules for 3rd countries we should be ok financially,

Would be good to have some views on best areas to live in Villamartin though.

thanks again

Ps it’s been raining continuously for 4 days and we have just returned from a break in Torquay as we had to cancel Spain. The current weather makes the desire stronger 😎😎

Hi we bought a new build house in Villamartin 2 years ago and love the area.  We are close to Dial a Prix supermarket and we can walk to the Boulevard and La Zenia where all shops bars and restaurants are.  We are also not far from the canal where you can walk or cycle for miles.  Villamartin also has a Plaza with bars restaurants and live entertainment, but is a fair walk from the Boulevard and beach,  so it would depend on what part of Villamartin you would prefer.  We are very happy where we are as we are within walking distance of everything we need.  Hope this is helpful.

Hi Bevie

We have just bought a 2 bed apartment on Pau8 in Villamartin in July, we took 2 years to find the exact property and the right location for us, everyone has differing requirements, ours were walkable to local bars, restaurants and shops close enough to drive to the beach but not that far away like an hours drive, quiet area overall with use of commual pool plus an apartment with a good sized solarium to relax, all for under a pound lol.

We have owned property in Spain previuosly so knew alot of the pitfalls and charges to add to the house purchase make sure you are aware of this....!!

We are 45 minutes drive from the airport, 5 minutes to the Villamartin Plaza, 10 minutes from the Boulevard and 10/15 minutes from the beach so everything is accessable, be sure to view in all seasons as places that look great in the summer can become destitute in the winter, lastly stick to a budget dont get carried away with the Sun, Sea & Sand as they say as Spain is generally a money pit.

Hope you find this usefull anything you think of ask and I am sure someone will be able to answer your question.

Regards Andrew

We bought in Los  Dolses three years ago and find this area ideal as it is half way between  Villamartin and La Zenia, everything on your doorstep or within walking distance. Good luck

Thanks- your property sounds great. It’s exactly what we are looking for.

We are aware of the extra costs involved and it almost put my partner off. We intend to visit different areas in the next year or so as I can’t retire for another 3 years or so. I’m also going to wait for the outcome of Brexit and Covid as I think it may put lots of people off and there may be a glut of property available,

Regards

We made an impulse purchase on Las Violetas Urbanisation a few years ago.

We were driving through the area on the way to a usual long winter break, this time in the Costa Del Sol and I took my wife for a coffee in Villamartin plaza. She saw some for sale signs and just being nosey we went to view a property overlooking the plaza with no intention of buying. When we rejected the property the agent said he had just the property for us walking distance away. I went along just to humour the wife. However as soon as he opened the door we fell for the place and thought it would be a great place to winter every year rather than look for a rental. So we had an offer accepted and don’t regret it, even with the subsequent event of Brexit and Coronavirus. There are some detached properties at the back of the Urbanisation along the canal with distant sea views which would make an ideal purchase for someone moving here full time. There are a number of people who are resident on the Urbanisation and I can recommend it as a place to view while you are here.

Also well worth considerthe Estate Agents we used, they were not hard sell at all and left us alone. https://vistacasas.com/

Good luck with your property search.

We used to have a property between El Galan and Villamartin, but sold it for a place near Torrevieja central.  We loved the house and the pretty area but found that as neither of us drive the hilly terrain was becoming too much and the bus timetable was rather restrictive.  If you will be having a car out here then you should be fine.
