It may help to have a look at Jim’s Guides on this site.   Also the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site may have some helpful information.    For anything to do with driving in Spain have a look at the N332 Facebook page and their website.   The N332 sites are run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Hi Holly, my husband and I moved to VM from Worcestershire last New Years Eve, leaving behind 2 daughters and a 5 year old grandson. Yes it is hard and we do miss them (no getting around that!) but we use FaceTime and have been back for holidays and of course they love coming here! Alicante airport is 45 minutes away & flights are pretty good, usually £30 - £80.

We used Sun Lawyers in La Zenia for NIE, house purchase and wills, they were brilliant. They recommended us to Orke Services in Los Montesinos, who have helped with registering car details and sorting a Spanish driving licence. There may well be cheaper ways of doing things but these were both quick, efficient and perfect English speaking companies.

The Villa Martin community is friendly, helpful and easy to feel at home with, I’m sure you will soon settle in.

Good Luck!

Hi Holly

My husband and I made the move from Bath to Villamartin 4 years ago. We are early retirees. We found Facebook and Messenger great for FaceTiming and keeping up with family and friends and have frequent visitors.  Our sons and grandchildren have quality time with us here in Spain. Once you get here you will have fun exploring and enjoying the social scene meeting new friends, I am sure.

I moved here 6 weeks ago and have found the transition easy although I’ve had non stop visitors from England with some leaving and others arriving same day! Flights are so cheap and travelling time so short that staying connected to loved ones is simple.  Obviously it’s all very new to me and there may be times in future when life can feel more difficult but whatever you want for yourself then go get it :D  I’m 31 with a toddler and there’s plenty to do, I adore this lifestyle but I know plenty of my friends could never leave England as they don’t want to! I was unsure about leaving my nephew but he started school and now he gets to spend every school holiday here with a pool and an abundance of beaches, he thinks it’s awesome! I feel like I’ll be getting more quality time with him so that will help keep me strong and I’m blessed that I can go to England whenever I like too :)

Hi

We moved 6 weeks ago from the UK  like you leaving kids and gran kids , but facetime or FB messenger daily, hard at first but gets easier as the weeks go by , plenty of things to keep us occupied,  NIE , house purchase,  wi fi , tv , car purchase etc etc all this stuff keeps our minds occupied at the min , slowly getting sorted.Am sure they'll visit after xmas.

Exciting times! If either of you are over State Pension age, you need to get a S1 certificate to get free health care, then the other is entitled too (if you’re married!). It’s easily done but you can still see a doctor with your EH1C card while you wait.

Hi

We are early retirees , and will need PHI for 3 years ,but its still worth the cost living out here ,and no more getting up at silly o clock and going to work in the rain and dark and coming home in the rain and dark !!!  , distant memories now thank god ! .
