Hi Everyone

My husband and I are hoping to complete this week on a lovely apartment in Villamartin.  We will be coming out in the Easter hols to collect keys and get it up and running - very excited about it all!  Can anyone advise what to do about building & contents insurance - arrange here in the UK or do you need to use a company based in Spain?  Sorry to be a bit dense - only just thought of it - and the place may be ours by Wednesday!

Thank you.

Bernice

Hi Bernice, exciting isn't it, I completed on a house in VM in November and when it came to completion day my bank Sabadel arranged it for me for the first year ( can't remember the cost but just went with it so I can leave it until next year to really shop around) good luck!! Are you moving out or is it a holiday home, I'm a bit of both, holiday home for 2 yrs then early retirement in Spain here I come.

If you are paying on mortgage you will probably find it has already been included in your sale for the first year and then you can shop around.

I was going to shop around with Sabadell my bank because they used Mapfrei which is quite expensive but while getting quotes I got a letter from Sabadell to say they were going to do it themselves and the quote I got from them was very competitive, so I use them now.

Hi Bernice, congratulations!

My husband and I are in the same situation only a few weeks ahead of you. I was going to give you my experience but  it I see that you have already been given exactly the same story already. We took our insurance with our bank, Sabadell, very painlessly after completion.

Good luck, hope the completion all goes smoothly and you are enjoying your new home before you know it!

All the best

Moya

I have taken out contents and building insurance with Sabadell Bank as I have opened an account with them.  If I require to use bank cheques the cost of these will be reduced.  The payment is taken off when the paperwork is signed and cost me 253.65 euros annually.

Many thanks for your helpful replies - we are also with Sabadell and I have asked for a quote!  Great to know everyone seems to be using this bank and is happy.

Kind regards all

Bernice

Holiday home first Bernie123 with a view to either retiring there or spending 6 months or so out there to avoid the weather here!!  We came out in October last year to find somewhere and were lucky to find our apartment quickly. Looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying the climate and lovely food!

Best wishes

Bernice

Many thanks for your reply - our solicitor has asked Sabadell for a quote. We will probably do the same as you all and go with it.

Kind regards

Many thanks Ray - we are thinking it is probably a good idea to go with the bank as we will not be living there and will need to use their services often to pay for the running of the apartment and if they will reduce the charges for this we reckon it will be worth it.

Kind regards

Bernice
