Hi,

I’m retiring from work soon and I’m 52. I’m looking to move out to Spain and have friends who own holiday homes in Villamartin. They can answer a lot of questions but will soon get fed up with me! I’ll need private health insurance until I’ve been there a year, is that correct? I won’t be working in Spain but was wondering if it’s too quiet for me over the winter. Do many bars etc stay open especially on the coast over winter?

Enjoying reading through the forum and am coming in 6 weeks on a self funded trip to look at properties. I intend to sell up in the UK and move there if everything is ok.

Thanks for your time

Terry

I think you will find you require private health insurance until you are a pensioner, not just 12 months.

Maybe I didn’t word it correctly. I understood that after a year you can go onto a government health type scheme for around €60 a month?

It’s all fairly new to me but I’m learning quickly!

Yes I would add if looking to be there in winter make sure you buy a place with heating or factor that into costs.

Hi Terry. Unfortunately I don't live in spain full time yet but have owned my apartment for 3 years. Villiamartin is more populated then where I live so I am sure you will still find plenty of people around in the winter. I agree with a previous post. Heating is a must as it can get chilly at night in the winter months and air con for the summer. It may not be essential but I would try to learn spainish. (I'm learning) it will open up your social circle and make life easier. Good luck. I hope you find what you are looking for. Caroline

Thanks Caroline, I have very basic Spanish but intend to take lessons out there when I move. I’ll definitely be getting heating for the winter and despite the brexit fears am really looking forward to moving there later in the summer.
