Hi,

Have looked online but can’t find an answer to this? My partner has a military pension which is enough financially to cover the requirements for both of us but will the Spanish accept this as we are not married nor Classed as common law Husband/wife??

Any help or advice gratefully received!!

Many thanks in advance

Allison x

I honestly doubt that the authorities will accept that financial situation.

If you are a single person then the Spanish authorities will need to see you have enough income (being paid into a Spanish bank account)  to satisfy the authorities that you won't become a burden on the state. You would need to show you have an income of around €900 per month being paid into a Spanish bank account for the last 3 months. You would also need to prove that you have full healthcare cover.

I've never heard of an informal relationship granting any rights as regards obtaining residencia, and doubt it would be allowed as the system would then be open to abuse.

What I suggest you try to find out is whether registering as an unmarried couple - pareja de hecho - would grant the right for you to apply as a 'family' member of your partner.

The obvious alternative, if you can fund it, is to forget about proving income, and instead prove capital balance.

Thank you, do you know how much capital you would need to have?

You need to have an amount of €9000 in a Spanish bank account for the last three months.

Hi,

My partner and I have been here for nearly 17 years and even with a Pareja de hecho we were treated as individuals when we came to renew our residencies after 5 years, dont know if it has changed since but doubt it.

Also originally when we moved here I was working but he wasn't, I was able to have him as a dependent on my SIP card then about 5 years ago the Valencia region changed their minds and he had to obtain private insurance. Once again this may have changed since. My partner is now retired and covered by the S1 form,  unfortunately I'm still working and waiting to win the lottery! :)

Good Luck.

Thank you. That's the sort of feedback I like to see on this forum - brand new information that hasn't been mentioned before.

Hi Jim

Have you any rough idea what capital balance a couple would need if there had joint income of €14000  per year from the uk  and also 1 of us going self employed over in spain

Now and after the 31st dec

Thanks paul
