My mum (who is retired) and I are looking to rent a property for a month or so. We currently live in the UK but are making the move to Spain. My mum will be moving permanently and I will be back and forth until I’m ready to stay!

We would like to get a feel for the area first before committing to a long-term contract and eventually to buy a place. We would ideally like to book the whole of April but we are quite flexible to a different month.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Kind regards,

Sonya

Sonya you would be best negotiating a holiday let for a 1 mth period. That way if it's it not for you can walk away. Or alternatively try and find a long term let during the month.

Have a look at holiday lettings find one you like and negotiate a discount for a 1 mth stay . Will be lots of availability so you will get a good deal

Thank you for your advice. Do you have any advice on websites to look at? I have tried a few but they all say minimum 6 months stay. The ones I’ve seen that do a month stay are already fully booked!

Try this. Usually the best. Find one you like which has availability for the dates you fancy and make the owner and offer.

You will pay more than you would on a long term let. But you will have the flexibility to walk away.

On a holiday let for a month in low season I wouldn't expect it to cost you more than around £600 for a month. Depending on what you are looking for

If you are looking for 4 weeks you need to be searching short term holiday lets.  For April it is still easy to get a full month but obviously you are paying short-term rates (which are all inclusive usually of all utility bills so no extras).  Go for sites like spain-holiday.com as you can communicate direct with the owner and wont have to pay the web site a booking fee (owners direct and others add on their fee to the rental costs!).

I have a three bedroom house in Playa Flamenca, (but it may be too big for just the two of you, a two bedroom apartment would be financially more sensible), and we do a deal for 4 weeks lets outside of the main season.  So if you speak to the owner rather than do an 'instant booking' on a web site you will probably get a discount for 4 weeks.

Just make sure whatever you rent is legally registered and properly insured.  It is a legal requirement for all holiday-lets now to have a registration number.
