My Mum has lived in La Zenia since last October, she paid a Solicitor who arranged her Padron and Residency and it all went through smoothly in April.

This may just reassure a bit, exactly that sam happened in France where I currently live.Everyones story is different,it seemed to vary prefecture by prefecture  and folks were asked for different things. Also seemed different for those who were retired or had lived here less than five years etc etc, seems that the EU doesn't really know what to do.

Had our appointment booked for us 3 months ago for this Friday in Alicante. All ready to go ahead, paid 12 months insurance, paperwork prepared, funds in the bank and partner flying back tonight to Spain from the uk where he is working.

To be told today that the appointment has been cancelled. Disappointed is an understatement. ...

...

Has anyone else heard of this ? Apparently they are not taking any new bookings again.

Your appointment was Friday 21st June in Alicante City?

The entire City was at a standstill for several days because of the Fogueras Fiesta.   Were offices open?  If open I’d imagine they were working with reduced staff to say the least.

Thousands of locals were on holidays!!

Perhaps that's a simple answer to this particular cancellation!!

Good afternoon GRAN ALICANTE INSURANCE

Do you assist South African citizens to obtain residency?

I am in the process of purchasing a property in Punta Prima and will be arriving in Spain in October to apply for residency. I was told that I can only apply in Alicante and need to have Euro 30000 in my account, plus health insurance etc for the first year and for the second and third year renewal I need to show 60000 Euro in my bank account.

Please inbox me if you offer a service together with the costs and process.

Thank you very much

I have been familiarising myself with the Residencia appointments booking system and checking each day for the last week or so to see what appointments are available in Alicante region (thanks to Jim for the incredibly useful step by step instructions how to do this). There doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern, rhyme or reason as to what you are offered or when. Here are the specifics:

17th June - Denia (18th June)

18th June - Benidorm or Torrevieja (both 19th June)

19th June - Denia (18th or 19th July)

20th June - No appointments available

21st June - Benidorm or Elda (both 26th June)

24th June - No appointments available

25th June - Elche (30th August) or Denia (19th July)

Some of the days I checked in the morning and afternoon and there were occasions where appointments were available in the morning but not available in the afternoon, but never the other way round so I'm guessing they are released in the morning.

I did approach a "professional" (recommended on this forum) who told me I would need to sign up with their service quick as appointments were already booked up into September, which told me all I needed to know.

We won't arrive in Spain until the end of August so I will keep checking every few days (want to get everything sorted before Brexit Halloween!) Give me a shout if you want an update without the bother of going through the form yourself.
