We have a very nasty neighbour who is threatening to harm me and my husband if we don’t give them money. We have 3 Denuncias against them but nothing has come to court yet.  We call the police but it doesn’t seem to bother him. He has been warned by the Guardia Civil but continues to harass and intimidate us. He has said he will harm us if we don’t give him money.

Can anyone give us advice as it is a very upsetting situation

Thank you

Other than calling the Guardia Civil every time it happens, there's not  a lot can be done.

Have you tried recording the threats he makes, as that may be useful when it comes to trial? It may also make the GC more proactive as well if they can hear the evidence played back to them.

You say "them" so it must be particularly threatening.

Maybe a few big strong forum members who may live in Villamartin could contact Gerri , have a chat and if needed ,pay the neighbour a nice friendly visit.

Hope one way or another it gets sorted Gerri.

Thank you all for your replies.

I cannot understand why something so serious takes so long to get to Court. I am glad I posted on this forum it’s good to talk to other people about it. I hope nothing happens to myself or my husband whilst we are waiting for this to go to Court.

Thank you for your reply Les it’s a horrible situation to be living with, very very stressful. We have videos of the harassment & intimidation and they make pretty scary viewing.

Hi Gerri,

I'm so sorry to hear of your distress, how awful for you and your husband.

What nationality is the bully downstairs? Age? Does he know you have recorded evidence?  If not, do you have other neighbours who could support you through this, perhaps very obviously making videos, etc. of his behaviour?

Hope you get this sorted sooner rather than later, but in the meantime it may help to develop a strategy for taking the emotion out of it.  You can't alter the way he behaves, but you can control your response to it.  Visualisation is really helpful: imagine him naked except for, say, a tutu and fairy wand - or something equally ridiculous that makes you laugh.  It may take a little practice, but it does work, because it lets you take back control and he won't understand why he's no longer getting a fear response from you😀

But if all else fails, dragging heavy furniture around at midnight may help - you did say you live upstairs 😆😉

Do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes,

Kim

Thank you Kim for your reply. Very good strategy indeed if I can take the emotion out of it when he is threatening us. We are not aggressive people but he is so it is not easy.  I will let you know how I get on. Great idea to rearrange the furniture late at night!!! My husband is going to do it now!!

Noise travels in apartments and dragging heavy furniture around may also disturb other neighbours adjacent to you. Doing that at 1.30am may not be the best policy if you do have adjacent neighbours. Besides that, if he is already getting “in your face”, waking him up and giving him a restless night may escalate things. If the Gurdia Civil do have to come out, it also gives him a defence. Just my thought, you may be adding fuel to the fire.

As you said the “tutu”strategy sounds good for you and may be a better initial response.
