I purchased a second hand car in December and insured and mot’d this via the garage we purchased it from. They informed me the paperwork for road tax (Suma) would be sent to us via the post soon but it did not arrive. Sadly as non resident we had to return to the UK but my neighbour has said she’s checked our post box and it’s still not there. So I have been online today and it would seem I can tax this via a link online from 25/3. I thought I’d just look at what’s needed and it appears my NIE given to us 18yrs ago is too long to fit so is being rejected. However if I only use the number and not the letters - it’s too short. Any ideas to overcome this???? Thank you for any advance helpful suggestions. Regards.

Ahh thank you for your immediate response - that’s hopeful I’ll succeed. My NIE is         x-(7 numbers)-x.   Do you use the dashes?

Which date is shown on your "Permiso de Circulación"? You only owe th road tax if you are the registered ower on the 1st of January of the year. You can also send someone to pay at th council "Tributos" (as soon as possible to avoid surcharges ad late fees)..

The  “ comisaria de policia alicante “ stamp does not have a date on it and the Spanish text has several months in 2003 shown. We had the car registered in December 2020 to my name so are liable for the tax this March. Regards.

Thank you for this suggestion - I’ll try doing this on the day (25/3).  I very much appreciate the assistance given as it alleviates any stress, thinking I may need to re-apply for another NIE.   Greatly appreciated. Enjoy your warm weather there. It’s sunny but cold here today. 🙂

Hello Buddy

If it makes you feel any better, it's rainy &   grey & cold at the moment haha  but ... it will soon recover and heat up!

Hi Buddy,

You shouldn't need a new NIE, the number is for life.  The problem is far more likely to be an issue of how the online form requires you to enter the data.  As El has suggested, leave out the dashes.

Good luck!

Kim
