When I tried to sign into my Spanish Bank Account it asks to update my details, and it asks me for TIN (Tax Identification Number)

Is this to take tax from my salary, I only visit my apartment 2-4 weeks a year

Banks often ask for updates on your personal information. I don't think it's for anything sinister but simply to keep all records accurate.

Everyone who pays tax in Spain should have a TIN but you'll only get it after you've done your first tax return.

Presumably you are non resident and  have no salary in Spain and no way can the Spanish take money from you in UK.

Hi Peter,

As you are a non resident what they want is your UK National insurance number. If it’s a joint account they will need the NI number of the joint account holder as well. I had the same request when I was drawing cash from our account from the ATM. Luckily enough it  was from the machine just outside our local bank, so went inside and asked what it was all about. The manager explained that it was our NI numbers, I didn’t know them off hand so he just said email them to him and he would sort it out. We were returning to UK next day, so when we got home I sent them to him, all sorted. As stated above by killjoy, your account will be blocked if you don’t comply. It’s just something additional that is required since Brexit. Definitely, it’s your NI number that they need. Hope that helps, it’s just to update your records.

Hi we were asked for our NI number by our bank(Ciaxa Bank) but it was only to update their records, nothing sinister.
