I over heard a couple at the pool in the summer talking about Daves bus collecting passengers from Alicante airport.

Does anyone know of a contact number for said coach/minibus?

Many thanks

After speaking to our daughter today she seems to think that it was Barrys bus not Daves. Any Ideas anyone?

There is a company in Torrevieja called Coachtrips S.L., who everybody knows as Dave's Coaches. They do a very good range of day trips, short breaks and holidays, but I've never heard of them picking up from the airport.

Maybe there is another company run by a Dave, and if there is, I apologise.

The best way to get from the airport to where you are staying is always a legally Spanish-registered taxi, of which there are plenty at the airport.

Thanks Hennie - I learn something every day!

Are they a fully Spanish-registered legal passenger transport company?

Geoff.

Hi Geoff...It does say on the side of his bus..'Fully Insured'...he also has a fleet of cars he hires out..and because we hired one of his cars for a week last year, he charged us half price back to the airport!

Hope this is helpful...I would ring him for more info..Hennie

The website has a CIF number, Geoff, so sounds like someone's doing the job properly - which is nice to hear.

That's interesting Jim, thanks.

I was thinking more of the "VTC" licence for operating passenger transport vehicles. By all accounts these are rather difficult to come by, even for Spanish nationals. I believe that they are a fundamental requirement for any enterprise that transports people for hire or reward.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can correct me on this.

Geoff.

That's a good point, Geoff. I remember reading that VTC licenses are difficult to get, and that they only issue one VTC for every thirty taxis.

I'd assume that if a company are doing a meet and greet of someone who's hired a car from them, and aren't charging extra for that service, then they aren't running a 'vehicle for hire with driver'. If however they're charging people for effectively running a bus service, which it sounds like from the above posts and from the D & M website, then they should have a VTC.

Yes Jim, that's how I see it.

There have been articles in the press about illegal passenger carrying vehicles being stopped by the police, the passengers fined along with the driver, and the vehicle confiscated.

The phrase "fully insured" which these operators often use doesn't cover all their legal obligations.

Geoff.
