We were looking to buy in Costa Del Sol but have just seen a wonderful apartment in Villamartin - that we have fallen in love with!  Does anyone know if winter weather is as good as CDS?  Love the plaza - is there much going on bar and restaurant wise in the winter?  Also my grandson (11) for whom we have care of loves playing football. Are there are clubs around he can join?  Many thanks

The only thing that I know is that very often the weather here on the Costa Blanca South is better than that on the Costa del Sol.    Also, in the main, properties are cheaper.   In tourist spots, whether that be Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, many places close in the winter whereas a bit more inland things do not change much from season to season regarding eating and drinking places being open.

Regarding rules and regulations in respect of COVID, I would suggest that you keep an eye on the N332 Facebook page as they have been keeping us up to date since last March.   Their website deals with all aspects of driving in Spain.

We live not far from Villamartin Plaza, during the pre-pandemic summer months the Plaza was very lively, not so much in the winter. The close proximity of the golf course meant that a number of the bars and restaurants stayed open to cater for the golfers.

No one can be sure how many of these bars and restaurants will reopen after this lockdown, it's a case of wait and see, I hope they will all survive.

The winter months are colder than most let on and we do get plenty of wet weather a few weeks ago we had 4 days of rain, everywhere felt damp and very cold. You will definitely need a good heating system and an electric blanket for the winter months.

Villamartin is not far from La Zenia Boulevard, which has a very good variety of shops, also La Fuentes which has a number of restaurants and bars.

Torrevieja is not too far away just straight along the N332, word of warning in previous summers the N332 by Torrevieja becomes one long traffic jam.

There are Markets everyday of the week, we have only been to San Miguel on Wednesday's Cabo Riog on Thursdays and Playa Flamenca on Saturdays. There are stalls selling fresh fruit and veg and all the usual things you would expect to find.

Not sure about football clubs, I am pretty sure there are a few.

I have lived about 20 minutes’ drive inland from Torrevieja for over 15 years and have never needed an electric blanket, a duvet works wonders.   We do have rain sometimes and you do often need some sort of heating from about November to March, I live in an apartment and have a mobile gas heater.   Back in September 2019 there was so much rain on one day that many places were flooded, some palmost lost everything and virtually had to start again obtaining furniture, cars and other possessions, but such a problem had not been experienced before for around 100 years.   The government did start up a system of monetary help.    Currently most days are nice and sunny, warmer than it has been recently, but the nights can turn quite cold.
