I visited the MediaMarkt store in La Zenia Boulevard yesterday evening (Oct 23 2024). I was looking to buy a budget Smart Watch XIAOM REDMI WATCH ACTIVE BLACK at a price of Euro 29.99.
I found these on display at the advertised price. I took one to the tills to purchase it. The assistant did some fumbling and delayed for a few seconds and then he muttered the price "setenta y nueve, noventa y nueve Euro". Luckily I can speak and understand enough Spanish to realise that the price had miraculously gone up by Euro 50!
I questioned this increase but was told that it wasn't the same model of watch - it WAS the same one. He asked me to get a photo of the watch and the price; I did this and then he said "that a customer must have moved it into location". That wasn't true either as there were 5 of the watches in the same place.
He then fiddled on his PC again and told me that they didn't have a Euro 29.99 watch but then proceeded to try to sell me Insurance for a watch that I hadn't even bought!! Unbelievable!!
I will never buy anything in Media Markt again; I suggest that you shouldn't even visit that store - it's bad news.
If I could award negative 5 stars I would!!

Hi

As per Darro, order it online for collection in store.

Cheers

Hi Steve

Thanks for your response; most welcome.

We have bought this watch now; a gift for my grandson and he is very happy!

It was the attitudes and blatant lying at the shop that really got my blood boiling!!

Cheers

We had the same trying to buy a TV we had seen online from the Elche store. We found the tv in store at a different price and had the almost identical conversation and went home again, looked around for different deals but ended up ordering it online and selected "collect from store" and went back and collected it. In hindsight we should have just gone online in the shop. It's ridiculous and doing this would have shown how ridiculous it is!

Happens in UK as well. One Curry's will have an offer but a Curry's elsewhere won't. Here you can get an offer in Zenia but not available at Elche or the other way round. The website does point you in the direction of which store has the offer and which is online only. Much of the stuff in Carrefour is only available online but you can collect in store and they'll order it for you.

Exactly the same in UK on them trying to sell you insurance. I bought a laptop and said I didn't want insurance and he assured me if I took it out I would only pay the first month which would cover me taking it back on the plane. Then saw I was being charged monthly and trying to cancel it was a nightmare. Only when I fibbed and told them I'd sold it did they reluctantly agree to cancel it.

Dyson vacuum cleaner once only available online and not in store but ordering it gave you the option on which store you wanted to collect it or pay for delivery.

Also "manager's specials" from time to time but only at one store. Probably when you go on to these sites they ask you which store you want to use.

I remember going in there around 4 years ago to buy a fridge freezer for our holiday home. The sales assistant tried the insurance hard sell on me, but I said as we will only be using it for 2 visits a year, we would in effect be paying for long periods of non use when it couldn’t go wrong. Her reply was that fridge freezers often go wrong when they are turned on and off in holiday homes. When I said if it was likely to develop a fault being turned off and on twice a year, the quality can’t be that good and maybe we should consider one from Al Campo. She shut up then and gave up the hard sell.

They obviously either have targets to meet for selling insurance, or on commission.

We only use them as a last resort now.

Totally agree with you . The assistant blatantly lied to me about a mobile I bought it realised it was not what he had said it was . Tried to return it the next day took 1 hour. Never again. Got my money back eventually!

Worst store in Spain .

I go to the Elche store. Far better than the La Zenia one.
