Hi everybody,

I am still not sure about how our dog is going to travel to Spain from London.

He is a 33kg Staffordshire Bull Terrier, not friendly with other dogs (was attacked when a puppy by a large dog) and his race is on the Spanish dangerous dogs list.

My questions are:

1. if I bring the dog myself or delegate someone else or let him travel with an approved pet carrier will he need U.K. insurance to get him to the border and then pre-arranged Spanish insurance from then onwards?

2. Will he need a cage to travel in for all three of the above travelling options?

Our destination is Villena.

Any other helpful information will be welcome. Thank you.

Janice

Thank you,

I did do a preliminary search but I found that some pet transport companies no longer do this service, or else they didn’t give any details on how they transport the pets, i.e., cages, harnesses, etc. So I was left with some unanswered queries.

I will try again, thanks,

Janice

I would suggest that you rang one of the specialised animal transport companies direct and had a chat with them. We used animalcouriers.com (based in Sussex, but will travel all over UK) to bring our two cats over. They took care of everything - all they wanted was the animals and their Pet Passports.

There are several of these companies around, and providing that they are licensed to transport animals by DEFRA - which ensures standards etc - any of them should be able to advise you. Most of them have websites and are easily found by searching for pet transport.

Our two cats were driven down, suffered no ill effects and were delivered to a local cattery to await our arrival.
