Hi, We’ve recently bought a holiday home in the area and the house has a satellite dish and an old Sky box. It only gives a very limited amount of channels. At home in the U.K. we have a Humax Freesat box and it’s great. Would the same box work in Spain?

I don’t really want to upgrade the Sky box to a subscription service (we won’t be there that often) so we’re hoping that a Freesat box will give all the channels that we have at home. Ax

If your dish is the right size, and aligned correctly, the Sky box actually gets more free channels than a Freesat box does.

As Sky and Freesat use the same signals for their channels, if you are not getting all the free channels on the sky box, then it is doubtful getting a Freesat box will help solve the solution. It means there is an issue with the dish rather than receiver.

In Villena the dish needs to be a minimum of 125x135cm.

On a Sky box you can programme a number of favourite channels , which allows for easy "zapping" between channels, if you set it up for the popular free channels.

I apologise for jumping in to this topic, I too have a holiday home in Villena and had a 1.4m dish but everytime there was heavy wind or rain we lost signal so replaced it with a 1.9m and all is now fine. I am intrigued with the comment re. humax not receiving ch4.? I have a sky box and a freesat box which I am replacing 1 of them next month when I return with a humax recordable box, so will I have a problem with ch4 (which I watch a lot) when I install it? Also does that mean my old boxes will still receive it now as they are not humax?. How therefore do I add it manually to the new humax box?

Thanks for any advice

Pauline.

Thankyou Pete for replying, I,m so glad I will still get all the ch4 channels even in standard definition. I havent got any Hd tvs yet(old big back ones) and dont have internet either so suits me just fine for now.

Breathe a sigh of relief

Just another thought, why were 47 and Really unavailable? Lost them while back but watch a lot in UK? Does this happen much where they disappear for good?

4seven, (and C4HD - these channels are on the same frequency as each other, but not the same frequencies as C4 SD and C4+1) and Really (and the rest of the UK TV group of channels like Dave Drama Gold) and Quest SD channels are on very weak UK beam signals...so needs to have the right sized dish for your location and dish and LNB aligned correctly. These channels are easily available on a 125x135cm dish in that area, but as you have a 1.8m dish and not getting them then you have some alignment issue stopping reception of these channels...

and even on a 1.8m dish you will still lose channels in very heavy rain...the weaker channels first....and even more so if your dish is not aligned correctly.

"Humax have recently fallen out with Channel 4" - Humax did not. Nothing to do with Humax at all. Channel Four do not agree with the carriage charges Freesat want for C4HD and All4.

Channel 4 yes.

Channel 4 HD no, as it is not on Freesat.

Pete wrote "Freesat have recently fallen out with Channel 4, so you can’t get C4 on a Humax box "...which is incorrect, but corrected afterwards, he meant "you can’t get C4 HD on Freesat"

(Although you cannot get C4 HD on Freesat, you can still manually add it to your Freesat HD box in "non Freesat mode"
