Just letting anyone interrested in trying to get a return ferry to Uk, but maybe even ferries from Uk. My booking was cancelled today for 8th June back to Uk from Santander. It didnt give a date they are hoping to run but expect ferries will not be running at least till mid June. They only offerred a voucher but I,m using it to rebook for October return as not prepared to pay extra for high summer sailings.

Regards

Pauline.

Im in the same boat (or not). My crossing from UK to Bilbao on 2nd June has been cancelled. Think I will just use the Euro tunnel and drive through from France. Will use voucher for holiday visit to UK next year.

Hi Neil,

I knew they were cancelled to the 2nd as I,d had a sneaked reply email sent to me from a friend who had received a reply from BF stating they were shortly cancelling up to 2nd June from 15th May. I just didnt expect to hear so early as they,ve been cancelling closer to the date. We also have a booking to return back here in Sept which as no longer needed they have offerred to allow a voucher for 2 years free of admin fee(new booking system). I think they,ve been fair and I for 1 wouldnt press them for money. That,ll pay for our next trip like yourself hopefully next March. We come over with a van and hubby at 76 doesnt fancy the long french drive so I,m rebooking our return for October, just glad the Shengen rules havent kicked in yet.

Good luck for your journey

Regards

Pauline.

Hi All

Just to say that there are still quite a few bookings available with Brittany Ferries in July onwards. Not quite the case if you want a pet friendly cabin. I have just managed to secure a crossing with a pet friendly cabin for 12 July. Mind you it came at a cost. My April booking that was cancelled was €399. The June crossing that was cancelled was €586 and now the July crossing has worked out to €847 and they are only one way crossings. Oh well that's the cost of wanting to go back home to Spain. My wife did not fancy the long drive from France.

Stay safe and take care

Neil

Gosh Neil, thats some price! Of course height of season, school hols etc. We paid £391 for our return to Uk in June , now cancelled. I havent rebooked yet as prices from end of June/July/August all much higher and we,re pensioners, no rush to get home. We were due back Sept to Spain so depending on a reply from DVSA re Mot on our Van here in Spain (which expires July) we may stay for 1 long visit instead, accepting voucher for our Sept booking. I already know about the 6mnth extension to Mots but last week I have read, Uk motoring bodies have asked government to cancel the extension now as they feel too many dangerous cars on road with bad owners not upkeeping maintenance up with driving less.(We dont use van here as have spanish car, but need it legal for journey back.) I dont want to go back too soon and find we cant get in again in early September as Sanchez would prefer no tourists until end of September at the earliest. If Brittany cant get enough "residents" to bring back to Spain while the ban on non residents is applied, it may mean they wont run until that ban is lifted.

Good luck to you and stay safe

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline

Yes it is  quite a increase in cost. I will add however, I quoted the prices in euros not pounds. Those figures equate to £350, £420 and £750 respectively, but none the less it is still a lot. We too are pensioners and have Spanish residency so we could go back any time we wish but because we have our dog, we have to drive. My wife hates travelling in the car and the ferry offers an easy if not not cheap alternative. I am just looking forward so much to returning home to Spain that I am prepared to pay the extra. It just means a few less cervezas when we get there.

Take care and stay safe

Neil

Hi Pauline

I have just re read your last post and would just like to add that Brittany Ferries have been running a freight only service on all of their fleet since the 'lockdown', so I would hope that with the correct paper work ie. resident certificate (which a friend had couriered over to me at a cost of €43) We would possibly still be allowed to sail in July! Fingers crossed. There is no point second guessing what is going to happen, just hope.

All the best

Neil

Please don’t waste your sympathies on Brittany ferries I booked and paid for the  Bilbao /Portsmouth sailing 2 June  and less than 12 hrs hrs later they cancelled all their sailings until the middle of June.   Draw your own conclusions

It's a while ago that you quoted the price of a one-way crossing. We had our sailings canceled in 2020 but booked again for this year 2021 the price was £847 for both ways, then it was canceled again and they wanted to charge an extra £147.25 I rang them and asked that they cancel the extra payment as they had already canceled my trip twice. The young lady who was dealing with my complaint immediately dropped the extra charge. In my opinion, it was the right thing to do.

I was waiting 45 minutes for them to answer the phone but I recon that it was worth it. It's always worth being nice and asking the question.
