I am looking for some guidance on what trees to plant next Autumn to create a colourful wind break/perimeter.

I don’t want to plant pine trees - want to avoid processionary caterpillars.

I don’t want lots of maintenance or pruning.

Needs to be safe with animals and no toxic berries etc.

I do not want to irrigate in the summer or protect in the winter.

Any suggestions?

Hi I’ve noted that you have said Villena but your location says Sax ?? Big difference between the two. In Sax you can quiet happily grow oranges/lemons, but would really struggle in Villena. If you go to the garden centre on the A31 heading to Villena, come off at the service road before Villena and then take the first right, along there on the right is the garden centre. Elena speaks really good English and would help you with your requirements. You can see the garden centre from the A31 heading in the other direction towards Sax. Hope this helps

Hi. I was going to buy a finca in Yecla. Why don’t you try planting almond, apricot, cherry and plum trees. They thrive in the colder parts of Spain. Almond trees in particular don’t need much water when established. I hope this helps. Paul.
