Help please 🙏. We are booked to come over on 26th August for full 90 days so today have tried to organise our travel insurance. OMG! 😯    I knew car hire was over the top and expected same with travel insurance but prior to last year our insurance was £170 for an annual policy and today I can't get it lower than £1470, but maximum visit of only 60days and to get a single 90 day policy lowest price out of 6companies was £1843. I,ve spent 8hrs trawling the sites and can't believe the prices. We are over 70, have medical conditions so expect high prices but not this high.

Can anyone point me to a company with reasonable prices they,ve found for a long stay period for over 70,s with medical conditions. The prices are enough to give one a heart attack.

Regards

Pauline

Hi, i am 67 with similar problem, we are coming across early Sept until late November around 86 days total, had a problem finding annual insurance but we found single trip insurance for both of us on confused.com priced at £165 and it covers the full 86 days.

Be aware that any health insurance will not cover whatever can be considered "preexisting".

Pre-existing conditions are covered providing they are declared first

Hi Nigef

I did a quote for annual with them and they gave me 2 companies only, 1 was £1470 and other nearly double £2650.

Wow!!!!

I,ll retry on a single trip. Of course it depends on the medical conditions. I used to use Ehic plus, around the £150 for annual with our conditions but their max stay is 60 days. I, m going to phone them to see if they can increase with extra premium. Did get a fab price from Staysure and they are offering 15 months for 12, price was around £497 but over 70,s max time away 35 days! Thanks for your reply, will update for other in same boat when I secure cover.

Just did single trip, £2064, and £3075. You,d think we were at death,s door! I have a heart condition which is stable and has been for 8years, both high blood pressure.I gave up smoking on heart diagnosis but hubby still smokes. Don't know what the companies are upto with such ridiculous figures. I, ll keep trying.

Hi, when we tried an annual policy we had the same issue, 60 days max, but on single trip we received numerous quotes for our entire stay, though we do not have any pre existing issues. Other slight difference being i am 66, could have swore i was 67, oops

I think it jumps a lot at 70 so you, ve a few years yet. I declare 3 conditions and hubby 2 but his are mild, so it's all on me. Hubby says we, ll not go at these prices. Going to phone Ehic plus. They cover for public treatment not private but at least they weren't too high. Need the 90 day cover though. Stay well, health is more important when it costs so much to cover.

There is a company called Staysure, whom I believe are a subsidiary of Axa the enormous French outfit. They appear to be reasonable and easy enough to sort out online, we used them a couple of years ago, both over 70.

If you're under 70 you can get an annual travel policy with Staysure which will allow up to 100 days for a single trip, instead of the standard 50 days. however, this is an optional extra which costs about £60 per couple on top of your annual cover.  https://www.staysure.co.uk/single-trip-travel-insurance/

Unfortunately, once you reach 70 your options are limited. If you have the capital to pay the increased premiums and you are confident in your health, even with prior conditions, then I would be tempted to make use of the EHIC and self insure were necessary.
