Hi Mike,

As you probably recall I had a strimmer problem and had bought at Ferri’s, an expensive set up which had hedge-trimmer and everything else incorporated. They sorted it out in a day. I was also pleased with other minor services.

Recently I bought a pool cleaning robot in Ferri’s as I have arthritis in my shoulders and the ‘hoover’ set up was painful for me. I imagined the robot would save me pain and effort. I was wrong.

I went back to Ferri, explained that it doesn’t do what it says on the box, it is not lightweight as they say once it is filled with water, when I lift the robot out of the pool, full of murky water, I need to get the now heavy robot totally out of and away from the pool otherwise the dirty water goes back into the pool. The robot sucks up the dirt but most comes out in the pool so I never get the clean pool I used to have.

They said I was 5 days over their 15 day return date. I said I’d had Covid and had been told by the doctor to stay at home. So no Certificate, only an anonymous test result.

We are talking about €900, it wasn’t the most expensive on the market but the most suitable for my rectangular pool. However, it went where it wanted (a bit like small children, lol) spat out dirt, so what did I spend my money on?

They are going to send a ‘supervisor’ to see where I am going wrong. Keeping my fingers crossed as that was a lot of cash for something which isn’t doing the job.

Janice

Hey Janice, i just bought similar, they are very heavy with water in, dont try to pull out with the cable, you can ease up to the steps if you have then catch the handle, up one step at a time until the water is out, maybe use a hook like a walking stick if you cant bend, the dirt should be contained in the filter basket and not drain out when lifting, something is wrong if dirty water is exiting, my Dolphin is great and catches lots of green gunge, pool is sparkling,

Hi there and thank you for your input.

A technician came and saw my difficulty. Not all pools are build in the same way and mine clearly made it difficult for me to manoeuvre.

Ferri refunded the whole price. I couldn’t have asked for more.

I am now looking into the hydraulic type which crawls along the bottom. No electric involved. For my size pool I need one which costs just under €300.

If anyone on here has one, let me know what you think.

Janice

I have finally had a satisfactory conclusion to this problem.  I had a lot of correspondence with Lidl and reminded them of the rules in Spain.  They in turn referred me to the maker of the item and again having reminded them of the rules they finally sent me a replacement that arrived this week. It was not an easy task and you had to be persistent if the Spanish bureaucracy and lack of customer service was not to defeat you.

I was not going to let them get away with not honouring their guarantee. So persistence pays.

Hi Classic man,

EU consumer law protects your rights and stipulates what redress consumers can claim from the retailer:

https://europa.eu/youreurope/business/dealing-with-customers/consumer-contracts-guarantees/consumer-guarantees/index_en.htm

as does the Spanish government:

https://administracion.gob.es/pag_Home/en/Tu-espacio-europeo/derechos-obligaciones/ciudadanos/consumidores/compraventa/devolucion.html

In your situation, I would print off the relevant pages from the links above, take them to Lidl, ask to speak to the manager and tell him that he's breaking the law.  If he still tried to fob me off, I'd ask for the "Hojas de Reclamaciones" complaints book.

Your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer.

Good luck 👍

Kind regards,

Kim

Also contact the Spanish MEPs and make them aware of these problems.
Get them involved to help you.  Afterall, they also have families and friends who also have these problems.

As per the OP, I bought a similar, or the same weather station from Lidl in El Campello a few years ago. They are made in Germany and have an automatic clock. The problem is that the clock syncs with a master "clock" located in Germany but the station can only link within a range of 1,000 or so KM of the master clock - so they will never work in southern Spain. I took mine back after a couple of days and obtained a full refund.
