WATER THIEVES
Very helpful member
Last week some people moved into a cottage next to me that has no water or electricity and had been empty for years.
A couple of mornings ago I had no water coming out of my taps. I was not too bothered because the pipe occasionally has been accidentally dug up because no one knows where it is. That is easily fixed.
On this occasion I found that my pipe had been cut and a tee piece installed right opposite the recently occupied cottage. Water was leaking everywhere, so I went down to the meter and shut the valve. How long it had been running I have no idea, but it will show on my next bill. It was obvious they were intending to connect their house to my supply. There are no other properties nearby.
I have removed the offending tee piece and left the supply shut off. Luckily I have tanks at the house to keep me going. I will repair the cut pipe next week.
This is not the first time I have heard of pipes being illegally cut to enable theft of water.
If you suddenly loose your water supply please bear this in mind. Find out where your pipes run and walk down the line.
