Hi there,

I had an appointment in Alicante this morning to apply for residencia. Due to the heavy snow and road conditions, the A31 was officially closed and I abandoned my trip into town Luckily I have got another appointment in Elda in the next couple of days.

Does anyone have experience of the Elda Foreigners Department?

Are they a bit more rigid in applying the regulations?

Thanks for any answers you give.

Just thought I’d let you know that I resolved everything regarding my residencia.

What a shame that our Villena group isn’t more popular amongst local residents. It would be great to compare information,  situations and opinions like many other groups do.

Hi Janice, so are you in Spain 100% now as you,ve got your residency? (Dont tell me you did it to stay longer than the 90days?) Are you there by yourself or has your partner moved over too?. Not able to do residency yet, same situation as last year, still have a cluttered house to eventually sell. We have done a van trip and another in March but its just tip of the iceberg. Seems I went a bit overboard replacing everything after the ransacking over there. As there,s not so many ex pats in our area compared to the coast, it,s inevitable not much is communicated. I thought only Alicante main office were doing residencies for Alicante didnt realise Elda or Elche were still doing them. Did you wait long for appointment? As our profits are too great(after 40years) we,re not prepared to give the tax man a cent and dont think we can sell this year. However we,ve done 3 x3month visits and if thats it for the future, we,re ok with that.

Kind regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline,

I don’t know too much about your situation so not everything is crystal clear.

Did the ransacking occur here in Villena?

I couldn’t wait to be permanent here so I’m glad I got it all sorted. Even my driving licence is sorted! I need to do a lot of work on my property so will hopefully have a constant flow of family and friends to help us!!!

Those local police who deal with residencia requests are still doing so. Elda were quick to give an appointment (2 days notice ) and if you go early in the morning it is same day collection provided all the paperwork is in order. Some ask for proof of income (pension or salary) or lump sum in bank. Very similar to Australian regulations. Other options are still Denia, Javea, Alcoy and so on. But Alicante are getting through a huge number of applications.

I’ve now managed to change my Spanish bank account to a residential one so I don’t have to pay the €35 per quarter any more. Things are gradually falling into place.

By the way, you would be surprised how many Brits are buying in our area. It is amazing. My nearest neighbours are Belgian/Spanish! And the area is swarming with English-speaking, or should I say barking?, Rottweilers, lol.

We need to publicise this forum a little more 😊😊😊.

Kind regards, Janice

Hi Janice,

A while back I had read on here residencias were only being done in Alicante so thats good info if they are all allowing them. Yes to ransacking in Villena in 2008. 12 years ago and a crap insurance refusing to pay out. (You must have forgot.) Thats Caixa bank for you. I changed banks last March from Sabadell to a fee free account even for non residents and I,m thrilled with them. Now I,ve read even residents in Sabadell and Bankia are being charged a monthly fee.

You,re lucky to have family and friends to help out, and your estate agent friend is a gift. We dont unfortunately, and I,ve poured out approx 20000€+ to get some jobs done, still have loads needing doing. I must admit getting jobs done is a lot dearer than in Uk. Las Virtudes has a lot of English but I only have one neighbour who is and he,s been up for sale for over 5years wanting to return home. Rest are all Spanish.

So have the rotweillers joined the other noisy dogs you had behind you? I couldnt live close to that noise it would drive me mad. You,ll have to get your new neighbours to join this group but apart from maybe 5/6 people around Villena posting and most from Las Virtudes theres no real prescence. A few new forum members have moved in to Caudete.

Did your brother tell you we met at the bin wagon? I got a solid wheel for the barrow you gave me for 2€ at the rastro(still havent changed it yet though.)

Yes you,ll get plenty of offers to do work for free holidays!

Best of luck with your jobs

Kind regards

Pauline.

Pauline,

I think you have me mixed up with someone else. I don’t have a brother here and I haven’t sold anything at the Rastro! 😊. My line of business is quite different - I have been an interpreter (Italian/English) and translator for some years as I lived on the wonderful Mediterranean island of Sardinia. But it is too expensive to live there now, sadly.

As for work to be done, I will get most of it done here by local Recommended Spaniards as I haven’t been too happy with work done so far by ’others’. I too will have to spend a hefty sum to get things on track but it will have to be done gradually and much further down the line 😐.

As for the Rottweilers 😄 I love them! I don’t mind hearing them at all as they only growl or bark when they need to. After noisy London, Las Virtudes seems a haven of peace 🌈🧘‍♀️ .

Good luck to you,

Janice
