They are ants, pretty difficult to discourage.

I suspect at the moment that they are recently ‘born’ ants, very young and tiny, we are overwhelmed with them in our kitchen.

Unfortunately there is an enormous ant nest below the corner of the house. Over the years we find that following the ants along their path back to where they are entering, not always easy I agree, is a start. Ours generally come in under the kitchen cabinets. Having established exactly where, we put silicone sealant along all visible cracks and tiny holes, and then place two or three Raid ant traps under the units. One has to remove the plinths to accomplish all this. Not the type of traps which effectively contain honey which are useless, but the more expensive kind containing a poison which they carry back to the nest. This usually works for around three months, then rinse and repeat! I am currently waging a small war having discovered another point of ingress behind a door frame, with which I have successfully dealt. That has stopped them for about a week, they have now found another entry point which I am following up at the moment.

This is an annual event, they are impossible to get rid of completely, especially as we are out in the campo, but one can succeed to a great extent. But it’s a pain!

I use this floor cleaner it includes an insecticide and is available from Mercadona. I haven't had any ant activity this year at all. When washing around door frames where they touch the tiles, squeeze some of the diluted cleaner into the frame. Not too sure as to whether or not it would be safe to use on worktops but perhaps a cloth dampened and wiped around the edges only may do the trick!. I also use it on the balcony tiles and haven't seen any creatures crawling around since I started using the product except for the odd dead one.

I have been using Cuchol ant powder for a few years.  Sadly nothing will get rid of them for ever.

I get it from Hipolito Ferriteria in Montesinos , but I expect others will sell it.  It is in a yellow box.

I just put a light dusting on them or wherever their lines are.  They seem to disappear almost at once.  I use an old salad cream bottle with holes in the lid.

It has been posted( many times), but I was advised by a Spanish elderly lady yrs ago. If they ( IE: ants) they "like" granulated soap/washing  powder ( sorry for spelling [edit applied]) ants takes home,. Kills the nest. Posted before. It worked for me. ( but, I am talking about invasive small ants). V

Hello. New to this problem and want to clarify. Does the ant take the granulated washing powder home to the nest and it poisons the ants? Why doesn’t it kill the ant taking it back?

That I don´t know. Perhaps they consume it when they get home & share it with their friends. V

A sprinkling of cinnamon or better still spray diluted cinnamon oil, to deter the ants. Won't kill them, but they hate the smell and it drives them elsewhere.
