Hi, my husband and I have just returned from a lovely break in Alicante. Whilst away, we visited a few properties and very much liked a property in Castalla International. We weren’t originally looking at an urbanization, but also didn’t want to be isolated, but found the area to be lovely. We went through the town itself by car with the agent,  but didn’t stop off to explore. A concern of ours as we don’t speak Spanish yet, but are willing to learn is how we would manage in the town/surrounding areas. Also the weather in Winter. We live in the Isle of Man which is regularly windy and rainy apart from really good summer months, and don’t  want to experience the same or worse  Winter weather - any advice and experiences are gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Are you EU, EEA or CH passport holders? If not, you will require a visa to live in Spain. This link will provide you with more information:

Thanks John. We would be retiring and looking at NLV.

Castalla is quite high up, so the weather in winter is very cold and in summer is very hot. It can also be windy, especially in the afternoons. If you google the weather patterns in Castalla it should give you some more accurate information. Please also be aware that some agents are touting that there's going to be an international golf course in the urbanisation, but this has been on the cards for years and years and it is very unlikely to be granted permission due to the economic situation and also the problem that Spain is having with water shortages. (Golf courses use a staggering amount of water.) Please do your research very thoroughly - there are an awful lot of empty properties on Castalla urb - you might get a bargain but on the other hand, if you do decide to sell in the future, you could find you're stuck with it for some time.

Also bear in mind that a lot of Spanish properties are of single skin construction with little insulation. If this is the case, it will feel a whole lot colder than the Isle of Man in winter.
