Hello lovely people, someone was driving our car and we got issued with a speeding fine. As we didn’t know took it to the suma office in Guardamar to pay it but was correctly informed by a very helpful chap that we couldn’t pay it there. Tried to pay it online and got right to the end (thinking I was doing so well haha!) and it came up that I couldn’t pay it by that format! Tried calling 060 and again was doing extremely well (using my Deeplo app) got to the end and it cut me off. Now I’m stressed (ha! Nothing new there!). The other options are to pay it at a CAIXABANK (but can’t see a branch near El Raso, Guardamar) or to pay at a CORREOS. Can anyone help please? TIA

The only time I've had a speeding fine, I went to my local Correos and paid it. Surely you've got a post office near you?
There were three points attached to it, but fortunately I'd only been resident a few months and hadn't yet exchanged my UK licence. The PO clerk took one look at it, realised she couldn't register the points, and told me to clear off.

Thank you appreciate your reply. I know I probably sound stupid but I don’t know the nearest post office to El Raso :(
If you were not the driver you can denounce who was and let them try and chase them.

Just spoke to my hubby (I don’t drive) he has a UK license only (he wasn’t driving the car) so how does he stand regarding the fine and points? Just wondering if that’s the reason we couldn’t pay it online?

The Spanish authorities can't put points on your licence, just as the UK can't take points off a EU driver.
John123456 has given you the links to pay online. Can't see how your driving licence would affect it as there have been quite a few tourists caught.
There are Caixa banks and Correos in Guardamar which are the nearest to you.

You can pay it online via Debit or Credit Card . You can do this, in English, on the DGT Website. Click on this link:

Hi, I had a speeding fine early 2023 and managed to pay via the DGT website, as per the details given by John. There was a 50% discount if the fine was paid within a certain number of days, I cannot remember how long I was given but it was on the paperwork that came iwth the fine.
They also sent me a receipt of payment a few weeks later, it looked like the original fine except it showed the amount owing as zero.
Good luck.
Aitch.

On the back of the speeding fines are 2 sections. If the owner of the vehicle was driving it’s quite straightforward, you just go online, web address is on the fine and using the codes on the form you can pay on line by credit card.
The other section on the back is for the registered owner to complete if someone else was driving. You complete it again online with drivers name and address and a new fine is sent out to them - even if it’s a non Spanish address.( That’s the way the hire companies get the fines re issued. )
So in that respect it’s similar to a speeding fine issued in the UK.
When the fine is paid you have to confirm you were the person driving the vehicle again as in the UK, but here a lot of the fines are just that a fine and not points deducted from your licence. I think the point deduction on your Spanish licence only kicks in if you were going a certain percentage over the limit.
For information about your nearest correos, our mail in El Raso comes from the Correos in Carrer Jorge Juan in Guardamar, just round the corner from the steel palm tree park. They’re open till 2.30 Monday to Friday. Parking at this time of the year is easy.
