Can anyone explain why some of us have had our electricity bills over doubled by a gas tax on the electricity bills for the last two months whilst others have not? This is without notification or permission. An example …… 735 KWh consumption fee was 117 euros then added 115 euros gas tax I am told to pay for the government cost of buying the gas to produce the electricity? Total bill with ‘add ons’ 264 euros!!!! Even the Iberdrola staff say it’s crazy and will be on every bill until next May. They also say it can fluctuate and may increase? Advice would be appreciated as many of us were neither prepared nor able to cope with this extortion.
www.endessa.com/en/advice-about-your-bill/cap-price-gasUnfortunately I don't think there is much to be done about it.
BTW 735kWh is HUGE, what on earth are you doing to consume so much?
I know we are all different but using two A/Cs in the Summer months plus two big fridge freezers on 24/7, and other incidentals, my highest monthly consumption ever was 420kWh.
If you are unable to cope with the size of the bill then obviously reducing consumption is your only way to relieve it.

I have reasons by way of family visiting me but my consumption is not the issue. The issue is apparently having to pay over twice for it.

Yes we too were hit with a bill of €177 compared to our average of €89. Hubby spoke to iberdrola and was told basically your paying for gas now as iberdrola have passed on the charge to the customer. Astounded is an understatement 😩

Thank you and your consumption is about the same as my normal consumption. A big difference between approx 80 euros and 265 euros!

It's not Iberdrolas doing, they are merely implementing current government policy so it's pointless railing against them.
Be under no illusion if the gas price had not been capped you'd be facing even bigger electricity bills than those you're compaining about now!
Do you have a better solution to the potential bankrupting of millions of ordinary citizens who could never have afforded the sort of bills which would have come their way without government intervention?

Is there maybe a minimum amount that attracts this extra charge? Is the extra charge a fixed amount of a percentage of your bill?
Ours is a holiday home and so our monthly bill is usually about 14 euros a month when we are not there. Weve just returned from a two week stay and it incrreased to 35 euros which was about what we were expecting as we had the fans on a lot. Ive had quite a few messages from Iberdrola over the last year or so saying not to worry their charges are not increasing so this is a bit confusing, just wondering if we are suddenly going to get hit with it. Are these extra charges being added every month or just as a one off?
Thanks Julie

It depends on what contract you signed up to. But I am afraid it is too late now to change.
I always keep an eye on Iberdrola website. This gas charge was introduced by the Spanish government to offset the losses suffered by Iberdrola for buying gas on the open market to produce electricity. Thankfully I am on a fixed five year contract that has a couple of years to run so are not subject to these gas charges
