Hi Guys,

I currently live with my wife and 2 boys (2 1/2 & 1 Month) down in Elvira (Costa Del Sol), we have been here about 3 years.  Though we love the area we have decided it is a bit pricey and want to get out of the apartment and into a small villa with a pool (Nicer for the kids and us).  I like the look of Javea from research but my wife has also found some nice areas in the South closer to Alicante.  I was just wondering what peoples opinions are re South v North Costa Blanca.  I have heard the North is more green but also a bit pricier.  Which is better for international schools?  Any recommendations re towns to check out etc.  We will drive up a couple of times this summer with a view to selling up and moving later in the year.  Of course we will rent for 6 -12 months first, any recommendations re areas (Javea, Denia, Torravieja.....?  We haven't actually been to the Costa Blanca yet its all online research.  I work as a contractor so easy access to an airport, not to far from an international school or bigger town/city so my wife can work (Spanish Speaker), enough going on that its not a ghost town in the winter.  Any information is useful.... Also is there a big Latin American presence on the Costa Blanca?  My wife is Colombian and has a mix of Spanish and South American friends at present.

We have visited all parts of the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and Murcia/Almeria, but fell in love with Northern Costa Blanca as soon as we first visited in October.  We went back in December and started to view properties, and now going back again at the end of this month for more property viewing.  Yes, it is more expensive than Southern Costa Blanca, but so much greener and just heaven for everyone.  Beaches, small villages/towns, mountains, rural valleys, beautiful resort areas, close to both Alicante/Valencia - and never far away from the motorway.  We do not have school age children, but I understand there are excellent schools in the area - and for yourself you will have the choice of airports not much more than 1 hour away.  I would recommend joining some of the Facebook groups for the areas that you are interested in - there are lots for Moraira, Javea, Denia, Orba, Jalon Valley etc - as they are a lot more active than this forum and you will soon make friends before you even visit!

You will love Javea and all the areas around it as soon as you get there, although it is one of the more expensive towns in Northern Costa Blanca.  We are also looking into the Jalon and Orba Valleys, towards Oliva and La Sella close to Denia, where we can get more for our money.

We haven't stayed closer to Alicante - but have toured along that coastline, and around Calpe - and I believe there are some fabulous areas that would be less expensive.

For us, we prefer the North over the South purely because of the landscape - my husband is a cyclist and needs the mountains close to the coast!

Best of luck in finding your next home.

Thanks for the response.  I'll have a look on Facebook for the groups, i never thought to look there.    Yes i like the idea of it being more green in the North, after years working in the Desert its nice to come home to the green....  I'm hoping once the baby gets a little bigger to come up in August for a few weeks, its only about a 5 hour drive.
