Bank asking for more details

The bank has asked for pension details. They have our NI number, our new passport but now want pension details. We are not residents & pay non resident tax. We only have till the 8th February as sent just before Christmas to do this. If not they say they will apply operational restrictions on deposits to our accounts. I’m not sure what that means????

After 90 days they cancel contracts for the account, I guess meaning direct debits. But we will be over before that.

Has anyone else had a letter from the bank asking these details.

There have been quite a few posts on here reference this and it is the new EU rules to do with money laundering where non resident account holders have to show where there funds are coming from. Designed to get the Russians and mega buck holders but has also, unfortunately, sucked in the smaller bank account holders.

Easy to do as you simply scan the letter from the pension people saying how much you will get per week over the next year and email it them. Either that or just take a copy and post it to them.

If you're over before that then just take a copy of the pension letter in and they'll do it all for you. And, yes, loads have mentioned on here that they have had a similar letter and all dealt with it with no problems at all.

What I don’t understand is the short time limit. We were away in spain so didn’t get till we got home. Then Xmas & new year. Now one big rush. If we were on a 3 month holiday we wouldn’t have got the letter which concerns me. Surely you should be able to have a bit longer till you can get over to Spain.

Just another one of the reasons why us non residents have ditched the Spanish banks and opened a Wise account.

You can send Sabadell the documentation you need in pdf, txt, jpg, bmp or png format. The file must not exceed 10 MB. To do this, access your remote banking from the website, and go to the drop-down menu next to your name,  then, select Digital Documentation > Shared Documents > Upload Document.

It’s presumably because the Spanish financial year runs from January to December, so they are attempting to sort out their legal obligations for the year.

Hi, we have just received a letter from Sabadell regarding proof of income, but are seriously thinking of changing to wise.  I have copied all my direct debit slips, is this where you find the information for setting up the direct debits with wise?

Thanks

Carol

Hi Carol

Personally I went to each of the utilities and gave them my Wise IBAN number which you will find within the Wise account once you have opened it.

If you are unable to personally visit them you could look in your online account with each utility, there is usually an option to change your account number.

Failing that, you can email them with your new info.

I would open your Wise account asap to enable you to move around it to get a grasp of how it works, there is even a section which says ' set up a direct debit ' but I have never used that.

Wise has a good uk support helpline, maybe they would advise you if this would work ?

When you have opened the account you have the option of opening accounts in many different currencies just by pressing the + symbol but as a minimum you need Sterling and Euro.

As for Sabadell, I kept my Spanish account open until I knew that all my direct debits were working, I didn't want to run the risk of a service going unpaid and ultimately cut off, that would be a hassle.
