This has been doing the rounds for the past 4 or 5 years .
The invitation letter in layman’s terms has to be done via the police station,it’s an official document which requires a couple of visits to the police to get it, costs a lot of money and you also have to send ithe document to your visitors to enable them to enter the country
But don’t worry about it as the embassy advised it is not being implemented .
It’s just something the British press use to scaremonger at this time of the year to promote staycations or whenever they have a slow news day.
As Lynn says, when this came out some time ago, I contacted the town hall and they redirected me to the local police. They said it would only be those who require a visa to come to Spain who would be checked and those not requiring a visa would not be. With the amount of visitors that come to this area alone I doubt the police could keep up with the paperwork.
The government site said this was the case and they would amend the ruling. They haven't yet but I have had visitors every year for the last 5 years and they never get asked for anything like this.
Bit like the proving you have access to money and all sorts of things but nobody ever gets asked. Just a shame they haven't amended it yet and some sites keep going on about it.
This falls under the same set of rules as tourists having to prove that they have €x per day (can't recall the amount and not worth looking up) at the point of entering the country.
Yes these rules do exist, and have since long before Brexit, but in reality are only very rarely, if ever, applied.
It's the same as the law in UK where 'offences' such as driving with an expired licence, failing to reregister your car, notify a change of address etc. etc. etc. are subject to a fine of up to £1000. Those offences will be being committed by many many thousands every single day but you'll struggle to find one single verifiable report of anyone being as much as fined for them let alone £1000.
In short, forget it!
