Sending money from the UK to Spain

You will find that many people on here use Transferwise, I have been with them for years. My transfers are done within seconds. I'm now looking at their Borderless account.

I use Transferwise every few months to transfer money from the UK to my Spanish bank.

I was a bit concerned about this new Brexit fee being imposed by Spanish banks to receive money from UK sources, so I contacted Transferwise customer service. They told me that using their service to exchange pounds to euros and to deposit them in your Spanish bank should NOT attract a fee, because the actual transfer is done by their sister bank based in Germany. EU souce for the euro deposit, means no fee.

I met with my personal banker at Sabadell this morning - she checked the transfer details of my last exchange with Transferwise and confirmed that it would not attract a charge, as it shows the initiating company as having a Belgian IBAN.

I have had the Borderless account, with debit card, for some time, and think it's great! The only caveat is that it can be expensive withdrawing cash at an ATM - which is why I now pay for almost everything with the contactless debit card.

Hi Steve, 

I'm trying to find a way to add my wife's name to my Borderless account and can't find any way to do it. If anything should happen to me she needs to get access to the account.  Any ideas?

I can't help, sorry! Me and the missus share our various passwords just in case, but that's really not a long term solution. I'd never even thought of opening a joint account tbh! I'll have a think about it. If you find a solution, please let me know!
