Where can I get help about treatment at Torrevieja Hospital?

My brother has chronic health problems and on the advice of his doctor at the medical centre in Cabo Roig, went to Torrevieja Hospital yesterday (A&E department). He was kept in a room in A&E all last night and all today. He was given breakfast about 10am this morning and nearly 12 hours later has not been given anything further to eat. Because of his medical problems my brother is painfully thin and cannot afford to go prolonged periods without food. His wife has not been allowed in to see him or to take him anything in and was told to go home by some very rude staff and a security guard. We are all very worried about his treatment and are at a loss to know what to do. He has been treated at Torrevieja hospital as both an inpatient and outpatient for many years and has had nothing but praise for them in the past. Can anyone suggest how to approach this when the staff won’t seem to engage with us. Many thanks, Janet

It is normal in Torrevieja Hospital to be put in the large ward to the right hand side in Urgencies when you first arrive. Due to Covid restrictions nobody is allowed into Urgencies except the patient. We are and have been in the same boat you now find yourself and your husband in. Very worrying I know but rest assured he will receive good treatment when he needs it, although they are short of doctors at present as I have seen in the local press so life threatening things will probably be dealt with first. If he has a mobile phone with him you can talk to him yourself and see how he is. If not you can take one to him and give it to the nurse/guard at the front door and they will take it to him. You will need to ask at Reception which bed he is in first. Good luck,

If he is in the observation ward then it's not open visiting. Normally you are told to go back at around 1pm when there is a short visiting period and you are called in but with the covid situation this was not allowed last time I was there. His wife can go to the reception in A&E and ask if he is still in observation or if he has been transferred to a room. If you don't speak Spanish then it's a good idea to take someone with you who does. It's very worrying but I've had to go through this several times times this year and you're kept in the dark but the patient is being looked after.
