Expert advice from my son who is an IT expert, “if it is more than 2 years old, buy a new one”

Hello

Aside from a couple of minor issues, my laptop is 9years old , used everyday and works very well.  It's not for work so doesn't need to do a lot --not always necessary to replace, just find a local shop for odd repairs or just advice

Cheers

1) Delete browsing history (select advanced, all of time and UNCLICK passwords (if you want to keep them)

2) Run Windows Disk Cleanup

3) Empty your Bin/Trash folder

So in 10days you have sat and waited for replies on a forum instead of taking it to an expert?

The poster said that their laptop is running slow, seems like their response to all the advice is even slower too!

Hi Martyn,

I don't think it's unreasonable for Welfare 100 to ask this type of question on the forum - all the responses have been helpful (except ditching a laptop that's only 2 years old! 😳) and may have saved Welfare 100 the cost of a solution they can do themselves for free.  Unfortunately, it seems we may never know 🤔😉

Kind regards,

Kim

But he's complained that no-one has answered then doesn't reply himself? Bit hypocritical

Yep - and it may have been helpful for other members to hear whether any of the suggestions have improved or resolved the issue he was experiencing 🤔

My laptop I am using at the moment is 10 years old, originally being Windows 8, later Windows 10.

I have Norton 360 and SpyHunter 5 on it which takes care of the nasty stuff I don't want. Ransomware and such are a lot more expensive.

A trip to Siem Reap (Cambodia) a few years back showed numerous wifi attempts to put bitcoin mining Trojans on my computer. They will definitely slow down any computer.

I bought a 1TB external drive (cheap) as I had so many films, TV series, photos, endless thousands of books, comics, magazines, etc on the computer which were obviously slowing it down. Now they are only connected when needed.

Without access to the machine, i.e. hands on... It's pretty much impossible for anyone to diagnose, never mind give advice, when the only information is "it's slow".

The simplest solution would be to actually take it to a computer shop who offer repairs

It pointless trying to help the OP if he hasn't got the decency to reply to any of the posts he's had offering good advice.
