This question cropped up on a Facebook group that I am a member of and it got me stumped. Wondering if anyone knows the answer. A UK passport holder has a Spanish grandfather and believed that gave him the right to move to and work in Spain. Can’t recall coming across this query on these forums before.
Jus Sanguins. Nationality by bloodline. If you have parents, grandparents or great grandparents you can claim Spanish citizenship even if you were born outside Spain.
Not automatically granted and the person applying must prove their lineage and that their ancestor has not relinquished Spanish citizenship at any time and the ancestor was a Spanish citizen at the time of your birth. Official documents (National ID card, passport, birth certificates etc) must be produced to prove the blood line. You can also claim if you were adopted by a Spanish national before your 18th birthday.
