Hello all, your advice is needed.

My neighbour has a dog who lives in her backyard. The dog is very neglected: I don't see her paying any attention to it. Neither herself, nor her children come out to play or to take the dog for a walk. It lives on his own, has a bucket of water to drink and that's about it :(

The biggest issue is the dog's hygiene. The backyard is full of dog excrements and stinks especially now with summer fast approaching.

My neighbour tells she is too busy, works late and takes care of her children alone.. however, IMHO it's a lame excuse. Once you take a pet you automatically assume full responsibility alongside.

I don't know how to act in this delicate case? My heart is bleeding to see a sad half-starving neglected animal.

Well I could not sit back and do nothing.  Could you not call an animal rescue place and ask for advice?? Not sure what to say but it's not something you can ignore.  Has it got shelter from the sun??? If not you really need to do something before it gets any warmer.  Just not fair 😔

Yes, I have already wrote to the Asociacion Protectora de Animales de El Campello.

The dog has a small shelter (dog house) to sleep and the patio walls give shade. However, the animal is really lonely and unhappy.

I wish some animal shelter volunteer would come to Aigues to talk to the owner of the dog. Sometimes it's a question of education and a little push / moral support.

Well done for doing something! Too many Spainish households either leave their dogs outside all the time or tie them up!

They really need total education on owning pets and are about 40-50 years behind the British mentality of pet ownership unless you are a car breakers yard!

Hope the dog is rescued and loved !

It would be a good idea, probably gladly accepted? :) Unfortunately, I don't live there.

Ony when I go over there, I try my best to pay some attention to the neighbour's dog - to give him some better food and talk and give a toy to play (however the dog doesn't really know what to do with pet toys)
